  • At +1500, the Winnipeg Jets are tied with the Vancouver Canucks for the 10th-shortest Stanley Cup odds.
  • The Jets have won six games in a row, including consecutive shutouts against the Avalanche and Stars.
  • Winnipeg will play Colorado in the first round of the playoffs.

After winning six games in a row, Winnipeg Jets fans will hope their team continues streaking into the playoffs when they commence on April 20.

Their Stanley Cup odds briefly dropped to +2000 briefly before rebounding to +1500. The Jets will meet the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs and, according to the futures hockey odds, are +115 underdogs.

2024 Winnipeg Jets Stanley Cup Odds

RankTeamOdds
1Florida Panthers+270
2Dallas Stars+300
3New York Rangers+300
4Edmonton Oilers+450
5Colorado Avalanche+1400
6Vancouver Canucks+2000
7Boston Bruins+2800

The Jets’ +1500 Stanley Cup odds imply a winning probability of 6.25%. Their current odds don’t reflect how well they’ve been playing recently. However, those looking to back the Jets will want to consider their recent streaky nature.

Before the current six-game winning streak, Winnipeg lost six in a row.

Winnipeg Jets Strengths

The Jets’ defence is as tight as a freshly strung tennis racquet. It hasn’t allowed more than three goals in the last seven games and concedes the league’s fewest goals per game (2.41).

Winnipeg also has two consecutive shutouts. As if that’s not impressive enough, they came against the Dallas Stars and Avalanche, two teams that stand between them and a deep playoff run.

The 7-0 victory in Colorado was the first time the Avalanche had been shutout at home. Erupting for seven goals will help with the team’s confidence as they prepare to battle the usually high-powered Avalanche in the first round.

The Jets have set themselves up perfectly for what should be a terrific opening series. Winnipeg has dominated Colorado, winning all three games by a combined 17-4. They’re also on the verge of securing home-ice advantage, a pivotal variable considering the Avs’ league-best home record.

The Jets have the seventh-best home points percentage (.679), while the Avalanche are a mediocre 12th on the road, taking just 54% of available points.

Winnipeg has scored the opening goal and entered the first intermission with the lead four times in the current six-game winning run.

Both occurrences are vital for a deep playoff run. The Jets are almost unbeatable when they score first (.850 win percentage) or have the lead after one period (.929 win percentage). Those are ranked No. 2 and No. 1, respectively.

Connor Hellebuyck has much to do with the team’s ability to shut down shop and almost unerringly secure victories after getting an early lead, and the Vezina frontrunner is rounding into peak form at the most critical time of the year.

He has 34.5 goals saved above expected, the second-best rating since 2016-17. With Hellebuyck arguably playing the best hockey of his career, anything is possible. The 30-year-old is the main reason the Jets have remained among the favourites to win the Stanley Cup

Winnipeg Jets Weaknesses

Special teams have been an issue throughout the season, and that won’t change entering the playoffs. The Jets have the 21st-ranked penalty kill (77.2%) and the 22nd-ranked power play (19%).

Rick Bowness’ team doesn’t need a reminder to stay out of the sin bin against the Avs’ fifth-ranked power play.

The Jets’ league-best defence comes with a mediocre offence. They score the 15th-most goals per game (3.14) and rank 20th for high-danger shots (159).

That won’t be too much of a concern if they continue defending at an elite level and, on the rare occasion when things break down, can rely on Hellebuyck’s unwavering brilliance.

Have the Winnipeg Jets Won the Stanley Cup?

No, the Winnipeg Jets haven’t won the Stanley Cup.

Since returning to Winnipeg in 2011, the Jets have made it to the conference final once, losing to the Golden Knights in 2017-18. However, they have qualified for the postseason in five of the previous six seasons.
