  • The Maple Leafs are 3-for-23 on the power play since starting the postseason 5-for-9.
  • The Maple Leafs have the third-best goals percentage (56.1).
  • The Maple Leafs have the best goals differential above expected (10.46).

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost 2-0 in Game 4 despite Joseph Woll standing on his head for the lion’s share of the contest.

Woll enjoyed his best start since replacing the injured Anthony Stolarz, turning aside 35 of 37 shots, including 14 of 15 in the first period. Toronto was penalized four times in the opening 20 minutes, the most of any team in a period thus far in the postseason.

The Panthers made the fourth attempt count, with Carter Verhaeghe putting the finishing touches on a beautiful Matthew Tkachuk pass. Craig Berube’s team conceded 29 shots on goal after 40 minutes, again the most of any team at that stage of a 2025 playoff game.

Woll finished with 1.43 goals saved above expected, giving his team a chance to snatch victory. Unfortunately, Sergei Bobrovsky’s best performance of the series coincided with Woll’s.

The Panthers’ ace stopped all 23 shots for his fifth playoff shutout, finishing with 2.63 goals saved above expected.

Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup Odds

After Game 2, the Maple Leafs’ Stanley Cup odds (+425) were the fourth shortest. Those hockey odds have since decreased to +800, the fifth shortest.

The Panthers’ +950 odds after Game 2 shortened to +425, leapfrogging the Maple Leafs on the odds leaderboard.

Florida has the fourth-shortest odds to win it all, trailing the Dallas Stars (+340), Carolina Hurricanes (+360), and Edmonton Oilers (+375).

Toronto Maple Leafs Eastern Conference Odds

With +360 odds, the Maple Leafs are the second-least likely to make the Stanley Cup Final. Those odds decreased from +185 after the pair of games at Amerant Bank Arena.

Their +360 odds carry a 21.74% implied probability, while Florida’s +190 odds represent a 34.48% chance.

Carolina’s +135 odds are the shortest at the BetMGM sportsbook

Panthers vs. Maple Leafs

The scoring dried up as Woll put in a gem of a performance. That figures where the Maple Leafs’ postseason luck is concerned against the Panthers.

Auston Matthews didn’t participate in the morning skate. That wouldn’t be concerning in silo. However, Matthews played just 11 minutes, 28 seconds 5-on-5, ranked 11th among Maple Leafs skaters.

That’s much more concerning, even with the uptick in special teams play.

The Maple Leafs’ lack of discipline also cost them. The Panthers’ power-play goal in the first period stood up as the winner. Toronto spent 40% of the first period in the penalty box, making it increasingly difficult to set up a forecheck and put the Panthers’ defence under pressure.

There’s also been a precipitous drop in production with the man advantage. Since starting the playoffs 5-for-9 in the first three games, the Maple Leafs are 3-for-23, including 2-for-15 against the Panthers.

They will be thrilled to return home, where they’ve won 11 of the last 12 games.
