  • Thatcher Demko is the +380 second-favourite to win the Vezina.
  • Demko is tied for the most wins (31) and is tied for second with five shutouts.
  • Connor Hellebuyck is the -357 favourite.

Thatcher Demko is on pace to surpass career bests in save percentage and goals against average (GAA) and has already smashed his previous shutout record. Barring catastrophe, Demko will surpass his career-best 33 wins, which he achieved in 2021-22.

2024 Vancouver Canucks Thatcher Demko Vezina Trophy Odds

With hockey odds of +380, Demko is the second favourite to win the most coveted personal award for NHL goaltenders as the regular season enters the final stretch.

To win the Vezina Trophy, Demko must not only continue his current form but find a way to rein in Vezina odds favourite Connor Hellebuyck. While it will take a monstrous effort, Demko’s exquisite play and elite stats deserve serious Vezina consideration.

Demko is 31-12-2 with a 2.50 GAA and a .917 save percentage. He finished the 2021-22 season with a 2.72 GAA and a .915 save percentage, hanging on as career bests.

Demko’s 31 wins are tied for the NHL’s most with Colorado’s Alexandar Georgiev. He’s played the third-most games (45), has the fifth-best save percentage, the ninth-best GAA, and is tied for second in shutouts (5), four better than his previous best. Only Tristan Jarry has more with six.

Regarding goals saved above expected, according to MoneyPuck.com, Demko is second with 20.8, only behind Hellebuyck’s 29.1.

With a 19-4-1 home record, the Canucks’ No. 1 is almost unbeatable in the friendly confines of Rogers Arena. He recently won 10 straight on home ice, allowing 2.10 goals per game during that invincible stretch. Four of his five shutouts occurred at Rogers Arena, further reinforcing his dominance in front of Canucks’ faithful.

However, his level endures a significant drop-off on the road. With a 12-8-1 record, a .906 save percentage, and a 2.71 GAA, Demko must improve on enemy terrain to gain ground on Hellebuyck.

Regardless of his road ills, Demko is one of the main reasons the Vancouver Canucks Stanley Cup odds are among the top 10.

2024 Vezina Trophy Odds Favourites

Despite being the second favourite, Demko is still a comparative outsider to win the individual accolade due to Hellebuyck’s dominance. The Jets’ most valuable player is the -357 favourite to snag his second Vezina Trophy.

Adin Hill, the +1600 third favourite, has a ton of ground to make up. The Golden Knights netminder missed 14 games due to a lower-body injury. However, based on his arresting stats, had he played as many games as the two favourites, Hill might have been challenging Hellebuyck atop the leadership board.

In 24 games, Hill has the NHL’s best save percentage (.927) and second-best GAA (2.26). He’ll be the first to admit those numbers become more unsustainable as the workload increases. He has won 63% of his 24 starts, slightly inferior to Hellebuyck’s 67% win rate in 42 games and Demko’s 69% in 45 games.

Despite being on the top-seven leaderboard, Sergei Bobrovsky (+1800), Igor Shesterkin (+2000), Jeremy Swayman (+2500), and Jacob Markström (+2500) are long shots.

The Flames would be bottom dwellers without Markström’s heroics, while Bobrovsky is instrumental in the Panthers’ Eastern Conference ascent. Swayman has a 2.49 GAA and a .920 save percentage, accompanying a solid 18-6-8 record.
