  • Here’s a list of the top four active Canadian UFC fighters today.
  • Hakeem Dawodu and Charles Jourdan lead the list.
  • Other fighters on the list are Marc-Andre Barriault and Tanner Boser.

The search for the new Georges St-Pierre for Canada continues as they parade multiple UFC fighters. Since the retirement of “Rush” in 2017, when he defeated Michael Bisping to win the UFC Middleweight championship, the Great White North has never seen a fighter from their country win a title.

But the hopes are still high as numerous Canadian athletes and contenders are actively fighting to get a title shot. They are also responsible for adding excitement to online sports betting through the UFC odds. Here’s a look at the top four active Canadian UFC fighters today who have a great path to becoming a champion.

Hakeem Dawodu

First on the list is featherweight contender Hakeem Dawodu, who is a 10-fight UFC veteran. He was an undefeated prospect when he joined the promotion in 2018. Although “Mean” dropped his UFC debut to Danny Henry in March 2018 via first-round submission, he was able to bounce back and win five straight fights.

The 32-year-old defeated Austin Arnett, Kyle Bochniak, Yoshinori Horie, Julio Arce, and Zubaira Tukhugov. However, since this impressive streak, Dawodu lost three of his last four fights to Movsar Evloev, Julian Erosa, and Cub Swanson, and his lone win in this stretch was against Michael Trizano in February 2022. If he bounces back during his next fight, he can go for another run for a potential title shot.

Charles Jourdain

Another Canadian who is competing in the featherweight division is Charles Jourdain. After winning the TKO Major League MMA title, he was signed by the UFC in 2019 and made his debut against Desmond Green. However, he lost to Green unanimously in his first fight under the UFC. Since that defeat, “Air” has experienced a roller-coaster of results in his next fights.

The 27-year-old appeared in nine fights, winning four, losing four, and drawing one. He scored victories over Dooho Choi, Marcelo Rojo, Andre Ewell, and Lando Vannata. Jourdain’s losses were courtesy of Andre Fili, Julian Erosa, Shane Burgos, and Nathaniel Wood, while his lone draw was with Josh Culibao. The Brazilian Top Team Canada representative is now riding a two-fight win streak after victories against Kron Gracie and Ricardo Ramos.

Marc-Andre Barriault

Like Jourdain, Marc-Andre Barriault is a former TKO Major League MMA champion who got a call-up from the UFC. Barriault had a terrible start in his UFC career by suffering three straight losses and had a draw in his first four fights. Following this unfortunate stretch, “Powerbar” rebounded in his next fights by winning five straight.

The Kill Cliff FC athlete scored victories over Abu Azaitar, Dalcha Lungiambula, Jordan Wright, Julian Marquez, and Eryk Anders. His two losses came from Chidi Njokuani and Anthony Hernandez. Riding the momentum from his two successive wins, Barriault is ready to crack the top 15 rankings of the middleweight division.

Tanner Boser

Rounding out the top active Canadian UFC fighters today is former heavyweight fighter and now light heavyweight contender Tanner Boser. “The Bulldozer” holds a professional record of 21 wins, 10 losses, and one draw. His UFC record stands at five wins and five losses. Boser made his Octagon debut in October 2019 when he won against Daniel Spitz unanimously.

Aside from Spitz, the Shaved Bears MMA representative has a victory over Philipe Lins, Raphael Pessoa, Ovince Saint Preux, and Aleksa Camur. Boser’s losses came against the notable names of Ciryl Gane, Andrei Arlovski, Ilir Latifi, Rodrigo Nascimento, and Ion Cutelaba. The 32-year-old looks to use his latest win over Camur to start a winning streak.
