- Tom Brady won five Super Bowl MVPs, the most all-time.
- Patrick Mahomes won his third MVP at Super Bowl 2024 against the 49ers.
- Joe Montana also has three Super Bowl MVPs.
Like many other GOAT-defining records, Tom Brady has the most Super Bowl MVPs, with five in 10 big-game appearances.
Let’s see which years Brady took home the trophy and other legendary QBs to win the award multiple times.
Who Has Won the Most Super Bowl MVPs?
Rank | Player | Team(s) | How Many MVPs? |
1 | Tom Brady | Patriots (4), Bucs (1) | 5 |
2 | Patrick Mahomes | Chiefs | 3 |
3 | Joe Montana | 49ers | 3 |
4 | Eli Manning | Giants | 2 |
5 | Bart Starr | Packers | 2 |
6 | Terry Bradshaw | Steelers | 2 |
While some, like the temperamental Chris Russo (Mad Dog), will have you believe Patrick Mahomes has already usurped Brady as the GOAT. However, I reserve that designation for Brady (which is why his NFL odds of taking home Super Bowl MVP honours was often a favourite pick by bettors).

The seven-time Super Bowl winner, another record-setting accomplishment, took the Super Bowl MVP plaudits in 2002, 2004, 2015, 2017, and 2021. Only twice, in 2005 and 2019, did Brady win the Super Bowl but not the MVP.

Deion Branch took the 2005 MVP honours, and Julian Edelman won the award in 2019.
While on a torrid pace, Mahomes has a lot of ground to make up if he is to succeed Brady as the GOAT.
Brady secured two Super Bowl MVPs by the age of 26. Mahomes, now 28, has three, which Brady didn’t accomplish until the 2015 season when he was 37.
To the people saying Pat Mahomes doesn’t have ‘all-time’ stats yet:
1. He’s SECOND ALL TIME in Passer Rating.
2. He’s FIRST ALL TIME in passing yards per game.
Plus 2 Super Bowl MVPs & 6 straight Conference Finals.

Even with Mahomes picking up his third MVP and Super Bowl faster than Brady, he still needs more personal honours and championship rings before being crowned the GOAT.
Joe Montana won three Super Bowl MVP awards in 1982, 1985, and 1990. The legendary pivot accomplished the feat in four Super Bowl appearances, all of which the 49ers won. Jerry Rice won the 1989 Super Bowl MVP, the only time Montana made it to the showcase final without winning the coveted award.
Eil Manning, Bart Starr, and Terry Bradshaw won two Super Bowl MVPs, the former pairing doing so in only two big-game appearances.
Who Has the Most MVPs in NFL History?
Peyton Manning, who celebrated two championships and a Super Bowl MVP, won five regular-season MVP awards, the most all-time.
Aaron Rodgers sits in second with four, while four others (Brady, Jim Brown, Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas), all retired, won three regular-season MVPs.
