If Canada loses and Bosnia and Herzegovina beats Qatar, the former pair will be tied for second place with four points. There’s also a chance Canada beats Switzerland, which, in all likelihood, would mean that Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina will finish in a tie for second.
Canada’s goal difference, thanks to its dominant 6-0 win over Qatar, is the best in the group by three goals over Switzerland. That superior goal difference provides a key advantage for Canada.
First Tiebreaker Stage:
- Most points secured in the group matches between the teams concerned
- Superior goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned
- Most goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned
If the teams are still tied, it extends to a second tiebreaker stage.
Second Tiebreaker Stage:
- Better goal difference in all group matches
- Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches
- Highest team conduct score (players and team officials) relating to the number of yellow and red cards obtained
If the teams are still tied, the following will occur:
Third Tiebreaker Stage:
- The team with the better FIFA ranking will secure the higher placement in the standings.
