Canada are matched up with Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

The co-hosts could have had a much trickier draw, so they are unsurprisingly favoured to qualify in the soccer betting markets at the BetMGM sportsbook.

Canada’s Group Stage Opponents: World Cup Records

Switzerland

This summer marks Switzerland’s 13th World Cup appearance. They have qualified for the last five World Cups and have been eliminated at the round of 16 in four of those tournaments.

The Red Crosses had their best World Cup performances in 1934, 1938, and 1954. They reached the quarterfinals in each of those World Cups, with 1954 marking the last time they won a World Cup knockout match.

Overall, Switzerland have won 14 of their 41 matches in World Cup play. They have been eliminated at the group stage four times in 13 appearances.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina have only appeared in one previous World Cup. The Dragons finished third in Group F at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with one win and two defeats from their three matches.

Defeats to Argentina and Nigeria were followed by a 3-1 win over Iran in the final group match. Bosnia and Herzegovina ultimately finished on three points and placed third in the group.

Qatar

Like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar are competing in their second World Cup. In 2022, Qatar debuted in the World Cup as hosts. They were the first team to host the tournament in their first appearance since Italy in 1934.

As hosts, Qatar faced Ecuador in the opening match of the tournament and lost 2-0 thanks to a first-half brace from Enner Valencia. A 3-1 defeat to Senegal was followed by a 2-0 loss to the Netherlands.

Qatar are still searching for their first World Cup point. They conceded seven goals and scored only one in three matches last time around.
