While the draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina is an important point, Canada will be disappointed not to have registered its first World Cup win.

It has a golden opportunity to secure all three points against Qatar in a must-win match on Thursday. Here’s why Canada vs. Qatar will be different from the 1-1 draw at Toronto Stadium in the opener.

Canada vs. Qatar Analysis & Betting Lines

Canada’s soccer odds to win Group B at the BetMGM online sportsbook improved from +200 to +150 after Switzerland’s surprise 1-1 draw against Qatar.

For a while, it had the same odds as Switzerland to top the group. However, Switzerland’s odds have since improved to +100.

Speaking of Switzerland, it couldn’t find a second goal against Qatar, leading to a late equalizer from the underdogs.

Will Canada Do What Switzerland Was Unable To?

Canada matches up much better against Qatar than it did against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

While Canada was the better team against the European side, it couldn’t put the finishing touches on several Grade A chances.

The same thing happened to Switzerland against Qatar, but to a much greater extent.

Switzerland fired 27 shot attempts, 10 of which were on target. While Canada probably won’t dominate as much as the Swiss did, the speed at which Jesse Marsch’s team plays will trouble Qatar.

Qatar jumped from 49th in the FIFA rankings after its resilient draw, but it will struggle to keep up with Canada’s relentless pace and the consistent pressure it applies to opponents.

Tajon Buchanan will have more joy on the wing, and Jonathan David should be able to stamp his authority on the match more emphatically. He has the pace and power to cause problems for a Qatar rearguard that is markedly more vulnerable than Bosnia and Herzegovina’s.

Bosnia and Herzegovina had the advantage physically, which helped the visitors escape Toronto with a share of the spoils.

The same is not true for Qatar, and Canada should be able to bully the Middle Eastern team.

That is where the key difference lies, and it’s why I expect Canada to pick up its first World Cup win.
