The quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic are set after a dramatic pool phase. Canada, after winning their group, meet the United States in the last eight, while Japan won’t face the U.S. or the Dominican Republic until the final.

The latest baseball betting markets at the BetMGM online sportsbook price the USA as favourites for the 2026 WBC, despite their slip-up against Italy in the first round.

Prediction: Who Will Win the 2026 World Baseball Classic?

I predict the Dominican Republic will win the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

They cruised through the pool phase, scoring 41 runs in the process. Fernando Tatis Jr. shone in the first round, and their pitching staff is capable of outduelling the Americans if they meet in the semis.

World Baseball Classic Favourites

The U.S. is the clear WBC favourite in 2026. Japan and the Dominican Republic are their nearest rivals, with Venezuela trailing in the latest World Baseball Classic odds

Canada have gone under the radar so far in this competition, but they were quietly impressive in pool play. Facing the U.S. is unlucky after winning their group, and it would be a major shock if Canada managed to progress to the semis, particularly with perennial Cy Young contender Logan Webb getting the ball for the U.S.

The best chance Canada have is if the U.S. are complacent as they were against Italy. Michael Soroka is good enough to keep Canada in the game if they can force Webb to depart early, and there’s still a sense that the U.S. aren’t taking this competition as seriously as other teams.

Japan have a tricky contest against Venezuela before facing Puerto Rico or Italy in the semis. It’s the weaker side of the bracket, but the reigning WBC champions aren’t guaranteed a place in the final with the talent at Venezuela and Puerto Rico’s disposal.
