The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team has had a plethora of all-time great basketball players who have helped them be women’s college basketball betting odds favourites of winning it all.

The Huskies made good on their short championship basketball odds in 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Many players in UConn history have gone on to have tremendous success in the WNBA, whether it be them winning championships or MVP awards.

UConn Huskies All-Time Greatest Women’s Basketball Players

1. Breanna Stewart

Breanna Stewart won four championships with the Huskies, winning the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award each time.

She was also the Naismith College Player of the Year from 2014 to 2016 and has the most blocks and second-most points in program history.

Stewart was drafted No. 1 overall by the Seattle Storm in 2016, helping them win WNBA championships in 2018 and 2020.

The two-time WNBA MVP also helped the New York Liberty win a championship in 2024.

Stewart is arguably the most adaptable player I’ve ever seen, given her elite scoring, playmaking, and defensive skills.

2. Maya Moore

Maya Moore helped the Huskies win national championships in 2009 and 2010, is a four-time AP All-American, and earned two Naismith College Player of the Year, John R. Wooden Award, and AP College Player of the Year awards, all coming in 2009 and 2011.

Moore was drafted No. 1 overall by the Minnesota Lynx in 2011, helping the franchise win four WNBA championships before retiring in 2018. She won WNBA Finals MVP in 2013 and regular season MVP in 2014.

Moore is the only player in UConn history to score 3,000 points.

3. Diana Taurasi

Diana Taurasi won three championships with the Huskies, winning NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honours in 2003 and 2004 while also taking home the Naismith Player of the Year award in those seasons.

Taurasi was selected No. 1 overall by the Phoenix Mercury in 2004, helping them win three WNBA championships while winning Finals MVP twice.

The 11-time WNBA All-Star earned regular-season MVP honours in 2009.

Taurasi was known to be a fiery and fierce competitor throughout both her college and WNBA career, as she’s one of two players to average over 25 points per game in a single WNBA season.

4. Tina Charles

Tina Charles helped UConn win championships in 2009 and 2010, winning the Naismith College Player of the Year and John R. Wooden Award in the latter year.

She has the most rebounds and fifth-most blocks in program history.

Charles was selected No. 1 overall by the Connecticut Sun in 2010, and she was the WNBA MVP in 2012.

The eight-time WNBA All-Star has led the league in rebounding four times and scoring twice.

5. Sue Bird

Sue Bird helped UConn win national championships in 2000 and 2002.

Bird helped power the Huskies to a perfect 39-0 record during her final season with the program, as she was named the Naismith College Player of the Year, USBWA Women’s National Player of the Year, and AP College Player of the Year.

Bird was selected No. 1 overall by Seattle in 2002, helping the franchise win four WNBA championships.

The 13-time All-Star dished out a WNBA-record 3,234 assists during her career.
