Texas Longhorns All-Time Greatest Women’s Basketball Players
1. Clarissa Davis
Clarissa Davis helped lead the Longhorns to a perfect 34-0 record during the 1986 season, when they took down the USC Trojans 97-81 in the national championship game. Davis scored 25 points in Texas’ win.
The San Antonio native was a two-time Naismith College Player of the Year (1987, 1989), as she averaged 26.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game in 1989. She has the third-most points (2,008) in program history.
Davis spent one year with the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA in 1999.
2. Kamie Ethridge
Kamie Ethridge was the point guard for the 1986 Texas championship team, as she averaged 6.1 assists per game during that season.
She also took home the Wade Trophy, which was earned due to her high character and leadership skills.
Ethridge helped Team USA bring home a gold medal during the 1988 Olympics.
Ethridge had her No. 33 number retired in 2019, becoming the first female athlete to receive that honour in Longhorns history.
3. Edwina Brown
Edwina Brown is the only player in Texas history to lead the team in the four main stat categories (scoring, rebounding, assists, steals) in the same year, doing it twice.
She is also one of only three players in program history to put up at least 1500 points, 400 assists, and 200 steals.
Brown won the Wade Trophy in 2000 and is a two-time First-Team All-Big 12.
Brown was drafted No. 3 overall by the Detroit Shock in 2000, spending five seasons in the WNBA.
4. Annette Smith
Annette Smith is the all-time leading scorer (2,523 points) in Texas history for both men’s and women’s basketball.
Smith was known as a dominant post scorer and fastbreak threat. She averaged 24.9 points per game during the 1983-84 season and was the Southwest Conference player of the year for women’s basketball in 1983 and 1984.
5. Tiffany Jackson
Tiffany Jackson has the fifth-most points (1,917) in Texas history.
She was the USBWA National Freshman of the Year in 2004 and three-time First-Team All-Big-12.
Jackson was drafted No. 5 overall by the New York Liberty in 2007 and spent nine seasons in the WNBA.
Her best season came with the Tulsa Shock in 2011, when she averaged 12.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and two assists per game.
