Canada, the clear Olympic men’s hockey odds favourites at the BetMGM sportsbook to capture gold, faces a quarterfinal matchup against Czechia.

Will Canada find its second meeting against Czechia as easy as the first, or can Martin Necas, David Pastrnak and Co. make Jon Cooper’s side sweat a little? Wednesday’s quarterfinal starts at 10:40 a.m. ET.

Canada vs Czechia Prediction

Canada had an easy time of it in the preliminary round, winning all three games by a combined 20-3.

That includes a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Czechia in the tournament opener. However, I’m predicting that Czechia pushes Canada a bit more in the quarterfinal, thanks to better defensive play and a Lukas Dostal masterclass.

Czechia showed spurts of peak play in the 4-3 overtime loss to Switzerland and did what it had to in the 3-2 win over Denmark in the playoff qualification game.

While I expect Czechia to be slightly more competitive, it is up against one of the best Canadian rosters of all time, a wagon that won’t be derailed.

Canada will advance to the semifinals and remain the hockey odds favourite, but Sidney Crosby and Co. will face a bit of adversity for the first time.

Prediction: Czechia +3.5 (-140)

Score prediction: Canada 5-2 Czechia

Canada vs Czechia Best Bets

Can Canada’s offence be slowed down, let alone stopped? Even with a heroic Dostal performance, I don’t think so.

Canada scored five goals against Czechia and Switzerland, its two most formidable opponents in the preliminary round, and added two handfuls against Italy. It has no weakness whatsoever, with each line capable of scoring at any moment.

Connor McDavid leads the tournament with nine points in three games, and teenager Macklin Celebrini has a tournament-most four goals. Nathan MacKinnon, who has five points, completes that absurdly talented first line.

Crosby, Mark Stone, Bo Horvat, and the rest of the offensive contingent are almost as dangerous, an embarrassment of riches few teams will be able to keep at bay.

Did I mention that Brad Marchand will likely return? Czechia has enough top-tier talent to score a couple of goals, which should push this game over the 6.5-goal threshold.

Best bet: Over 6.5 goals (-105)
