- Demetrious Johnson was the inaugural UFC flyweight champion in 2012.
- Johnson was the longest-reigning champion in the division, spanning over five years.
- Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno were two-time UFC flyweight champions.
The UFC flyweight division may be the lightest weight class in the promotion, with fighters competing in the 125-pound limit, but it is also one of the most skilled and technical divisions. This is also why fans consider betting on MMA odds whenever they place their sports bets online.
When the UFC and WEC merged in 2011, the UFC’s roster in the lighter divisions was significantly beefed up. In September 2012, they staged the inaugural title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez, and Johnson became the first champion.
Following that championship victory, the “Mighty Mouse” dominated the division and reigned for over five years with 11 title defences, the second-most in UFC history. But in August 2018, Henry Cejudo ended Johnson’s supremacy and officially took over the title with a close split-decision win.
Cejudo had over two years of reign before relinquishing the belt in May 2020. Since then, three fighters have captured the coveted championship, and Deiveson Figueiredo, Brandon Moreno, and Alexandre Pantoja have won the UFC flyweight title. Figueiredo and Moreno were the only two-time UFC flyweight champions in history.
