Alex Pereira vs. Andreas Michailidis  – UFC 268: Usman vs. Covington

Pereira’s UFC debut happened in November 2021 when he was matched against Andreas Michailidis at UFC 268. At that time, he was only known as the fighter who knocked out Israel Adesanya, but outside of that, Pereira was tagged as a relative newcomer in the promotion.

Things quickly changed after Pereira produced a highlight-reel flying knee knockout of Michailidis in the second round of their bout. This victory quickly made Pereira relevant in the division, and he was fast-tracked to face Adesanya for the title.

Alex Pereira vs. Sean Strickland – UFC 276: Adesanyan vs. Cannonier

Two fights after his successful debut, Pereira was pitted against Sean Strickland at UFC 276 in July 2022. Strickland was poised to be the biggest test for Pereira because he was a top contender in the 185-pound division and a UFC veteran.

But Pereira made quick work of Strickland in the opening round by landing a swift left hook that dazed the American fighter and followed it up with a straight right-hand punch that ended the match via knockout finish.

Alex Pereira vs. Israel Adesanya 1 – UFC 281: Adesanya vs. Pereira

Due to Pereira’s three-fight win streak, he officially earned the right to challenge Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title in November 2023. There was a lot of animosity in the build-up to their fight due to their rivalry.

Pereira was behind on the judges’ scorecards when the fifth round started, but he mounted a comeback in the final round by going all-in on his attack. Eventually, he tagged “The Last Stylebender” with his lethal punches before closing the show with several unanswered hits to become the new king of the 185-pound division.

Alex Pereira vs. Jiří Procházka – UFC 295: Procházka vs. Pereira

Pereira lost to Adesanya in their rematch, and he’s been having a hard time getting down to 185 pounds. This made him decide to move up to the light heavyweight division and compete. This move proved to be a great choice, as he was handed a world title opportunity in his second fight in the weight class.

In November 2023, Pereira fought Jiří Procházka for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 295. Many believed that it would be an easy win for Procházka because he’s the more natural 205-pound fighter and has superior grappling skills, but Pereira once again defied the odds and finished him in the second round via TKO.

Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill – UFC 300: Pereira vs. Hill

Pereira’s first light heavyweight title defence occurred fittingly at UFC 300 in April, where he faced former champion Jamahal Hill, who was coming off an injury. Hil was touted as the one who would derail the Pereira hype train but failed again.

Pereira wasted little time by knocking out Hill in the opening round to retain his championship. This triumph further cemented Pereira’s claim as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet today.
