Toronto hosted seven UFC cards at the Scotiabank Arena and Rogers Centre. Jon Jones and Max Holloway were mostly the headliners of these events in this part of the Great White North, while every main event fight was a title bout.
The last UFC card in Toronto took place in January 2024, with Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis headlining the UFC 297 PPV event at the Scotiabank Arena. That championship match added excitement to online sports betting via the UFC odds.

UFC 231: Holloway vs. Ortega – 12/08/2018
Max Holloway’s second title defence of his UFC featherweight title happened in December 2018 against Brian Ortega in the main event of UFC 231 in front of 19,039 fans at the Scotiabank Arena.
It was an outstanding performance by “Blessed” as he stopped “T-City” in the fourth round via doctor’s stoppage. In the card’s co-headliner, Valentina Shevchenko scored a masterful unanimous decision win over Joana Jędrzejczyk.
UFC 206: Holloway vs. Pettis – 12/10/2016
Before Holloway became the undisputed UFC featherweight champion, he once fought Anthony Pettis for the UFC interim featherweight title in December 2016 at UFC 206 at Scotiabank Arena.
The Hawaiian MMA superstar stopped “Showtime” in the third round to capture his first UFC gold and set up a unification title match against Jose Aldo. Other UFC stars who made the card even more exciting were Donald Cerrone, Matt Brown, Cub Swanson, and Kelvin Gastelum.
UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson – 09/21/2013
The first meeting between Jones and Alexander Gustafsson was an epic match, which went down in September 2013 at Scotiabank Arena. Jones was given a hard time by Gustafsson throughout the five-round battle.
But in the end, Jones secured a unanimous decision win in a match that could have gone either way. It was also an exciting fight card from top to bottom, with other notable fighters like Renan Barao, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Wilson Reis, Stephen Thompson, and Alex Caceres fighting on the same event.
UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort – 09/22/2012
The brutal submission win of Jones over Vitor Belfort in their championship fight for the UFC light heavyweight title took place in September 2012. It was Jones’ fourth defence of his undisputed crown, and he made sure to do it in style.
Belfort almost broke Jones’ arm with a nasty armbar submission attempt in the opening round, but “Bones” showed great resilience and turned the tables with an arm-breaking kimura submission in the fourth round to retain his title and continue his reign.
UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida – 12/10/2011
Another classic Jones performance was on full display when he fought Lyoto Machida at UFC 140 in December 2011. This was his second title defence since becoming the undisputed light heavyweight champion, and he made sure to put the whole division on notice.
Jones choked out Machida unconscious on the canvas in the second round and brutally left him barely breathing. It was one of the scariest submission finishes in UFC history. What made this event even more exciting were other UFC stars who fought in the card, which featured Frank Mir, Tito Ortiz, The Korean Zombie, and Antonio Nogueira.
UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields – 04/30/2011
In April 2011, UFC fans from Canada showed their massive support to Georges St-Pierre, as they filled out the Rogers Centre with 55,724 fans for his title fight against Jake Shields. GSP didn’t disappoint, as he went on to win the match unanimously to successfully fend off Shields’ challenge.
