3 Biggest UFC Pay-Per-View Events in Canada

  • Here’s a list of the three biggest UFC pay-per-view events in Canada.
  • The welterweight title bout between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz in UFC 158 leads the list.
  • St-Pierre headlined all three pay-per-view events.

Canada has been the second home of the UFC not only because they produced one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, Georges St-Pierre, but also because they were able to host the most UFC events outside the United States with 32 and counting. These cards have given fans some of the most exciting fights that made wagering on UFC odds more thrilling.

The Great White North also produced massive pay-per-view events that highlighted their best MMA fighters, particularly St-Pierre, who reigned in the UFC’s welterweight division for six years from 2007 to 2013, when he racked up the fourth-most title defences in the promotion’s history. A great testament to “Rush’s” popularity and star power was being able to compete in the three biggest UFC pay-per-view events in Canada.

UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz

In March 2013, St-Pierre defended his UFC welterweight title against challenger Nick Diaz inside the Bell Centre in Montreal. It was his eighth successive title defence, and he was successful in retaining his belt with a dominant unanimous decision victory.

The pay-per-view event sold 950,000 buys, the biggest in Canada’s history.

UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields

Next on the list is the UFC welterweight clash of St-Pierre and Jake Shields in UFC 129 in May 2011. That card sold 800,000 pay-per-view buys, and the Rogers Centre in Toronto played host to the event.

It was GSP’s sixth title defence, as he scored another unanimous decision win in front of his home fans.

UFC 124: St-Pierre vs. Koschec

Another Georges St-Pierre welterweight title defence sits third on the biggest pay-per-view events in Canada when he rematched Josh Koscheck in UFC 124 in December 2010 inside the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The card sold 785,000 pay-per-view buys, as St-Pierre successfully defeated Koscheck to defend his title for the fifth time.
