TGL hit the sporting landscape in early 2025, headlined by co-founders Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, but it was Justin Thomas and his Atlanta Drive team who went on to win the inaugural season of the tech-infused golf league.

Season Two gets underway on Dec. 28, with the defending champion Atlanta Drive against the team they conquered in the first Sofi Cup Finals, the New York Golf Club.

TGL golf odds are currently available at the BetMGM sportsbook, but what exactly is TGL, and how does it work?

What Is TGL Golf?

TGL, or Tomorrow’s Golf League, is a technology-infused golf league pitting top PGA TOUR players against each other in a one-of-a-kind venue built in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Put together by career Grand Slam-winning golf legends Woods and McIlroy, along with former NBC golf executive Mike McCarley, as part of their TMRW Sports company, TGL has six teams that compete in two-hour 3-on-3 matches.

Players hit full-length shots into a giant 64 x 53ft simulator either from a tee, fairway, rough or sand, until they get within 50 yards of the green. From there, they transition to the custom-built GreenZone, a 22,465-square-foot short-game area that can rotate a turntable green that also morphs its topography.

Matches consist of 15 holes playing Triples (nine holes) and Singles (six holes) formats, chasing points. Each hole is worth one point.

Who Are the TGL Teams?

The TGL teams are:

  • Atlanta Drive GC
  • Boston Common Golf
  • Jupiter Links Golf Club
  • Los Angeles Golf Club
  • New York Golf Club
  • The Bay Golf Club

Motor City Golf Club (Detroit) will join as the seventh franchise in 2027.

What Is the Hammer in TGL Golf?

The Hammer is a tactical move, symbolised by an orange flag, that each team can use three times per match (but just once each per hole). It increases the points available on the hole by one.

The opponent can either accept the Hammer and play for the increased total of points or decline and concede the hole for the pre-Hammer point total. If both teams call Hammers on one hole, and they are accepted, the hole value is a maximum of three points.

Teams can call a Hammer before a player addresses any shot during a hole. A team cannot decline a Hammer called before a tee shot.

What Channel Is TGL Golf On?

TGL is found on Sportsnet in Canada and its streaming service, Sportsnet+. Both options provide live coverage of the league’s matches.

What Does ‘TGL’ Stand For?

TGL stands for Tomorrow’s Golf League, or TMRW’s Golf League. It is named after TMRW Sports, the company put together by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley.
