It’s relatively rare to see a Canadian golfer priced among the online sports betting favourites for a major.

There have been exceptions, however, so it’s not totally alien for a Canadian to be in the mix on a Sunday.

Has a Canadian Golfer Ever Won a Major?

Yes, a male Canadian golfer has won a major. Mike Weir is the only Canadian golfer to have ever won a major.

Weir won the Masters in 2003, overcoming Len Mattiace in a playoff.

Sandra Post set a record at the 1968 LPGA Championship by becoming the youngest golfer to win a major. Brooke Henderson has since joined Post and Weir as a Canadian major winner with the 2016 Women’s PGA Championship and the 2022 Evian Championship.

Has Mike Weir Won a Major?

Yes, Weir won his first and only major at the 2003 Masters. He became the first male Canadian golfer to win a major.

With a mediocre majors record heading into the 2003 Masters, the golf betting markets didn’t have Weir among the favourites.

His performance changed how he was perceived, though, and he became a much more significant factor in PGA Tour betting with 10 more top 10 finishes at majors.
