  • Jim Furyk is the only player to card a round of 58 on the PGA Tour.
  • Fourteen different players, including Furyk, have shot 59s in tournament play.
  • Jake Knapp most recently posted a score of 59, doing so at the 2025 Cognizant Classic.

Golf is hard, but the professionals on the PGA Tour are making it look easy.

Recent advancements in technology and an increased focus on fitness have helped golfers score lower than ever before. Before 2010, there had only been three sub-60 rounds in PGA Tour history. There have been 12 since.

Let’s look at the lowest golf scores in history.

What’s the Lowest Score in Golf History?

The answer to this question varies depending on your parameters.

The lowest score in professional golf history is 57, but that round was authored on the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA Tour’s developmental circuit. The lowest score in PGA Tour history is 58.

The lowest score in major championship history sits four strokes higher at 62. Xander Schauffele accomplished the feat at the 2023 U.S. Open and 2024 PGA Championship.

The Guinness Book of World Records acknowledges a 2012 round of 55 by Rhein Gibson as the lowest golf score ever. He made two eagles and 12 birdies at River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Has Any Golfer Ever Shot 58?

Jim Furyk is the only golfer ever to shoot 58 on the PGA Tour.

He made 10 birdies and an eagle in the final round of the 2016 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands to set the Tour scoring record.

Furyk fired an 8-under 27 on the front nine and was 11-under through 12 holes before making another birdie on 16. He had two opportunities to go even lower but two-putted for par on 17 and 18.

Three more golfers have shot 58 on other professional tours. Bryson DeChambeau, a player I like to target with my LIV golf betting picks, was the most recent to do so, producing a 12-under round on the Old White Course at The Greenbrier in 2023.

How Many Golfers Have Shot 59?

Fourteen golfers have shot 59 on the PGA Tour.

Al Geiberger was the first player to accomplish the feat at the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic in 1977.

The most recent 59 on the PGA Tour came from rising star Jake Knapp, who set the course record at PGA National in February.

Who Shot a 57 in Golf?

Cristobal del Solar became the first player to shoot a 57 in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event when he posted a 13-under in the opening round of the 2024 Astara Golf Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The Chilean golfer made nine birdies and two eagles, reaching 13-under with three holes remaining in his round. However, he settled for par on 16, 17, and 18.

Has Tiger Ever Shot 59?

Despite being a fixture at the top of the PGA Tour odds for over a decade, Tiger Woods has never shot 59 in a tournament. Surprisingly, he hasn’t shot 60, either.

Woods’ lowest round on the Tour is a 61, a score he posted on four different occasions. He last did so at the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, where he went on to win by seven strokes.

Tiger reportedly shot a 59 at his home course, Isleworth Country Club, in a practice round with friend Mark O’Meara the week before winning the 1997 Masters Tournament, his first of 15 major championships.
