There have been plenty of Canadian golfers who have taken on Augusta National over the years. Only one has played his way into a green jacket, but plenty of others have delivered strong performances.
It’s not often golf fans see a Canadian among the PGA Tour betting favourites at the BetMGM sportsbook, yet the most successful Canadian golfers in Masters history are all familiar names.
Best Canadian Golfers at The Masters
Mike Weir
The only Canadian golfer to win a major, Mike Weir, made history at the Masters in 2003 by defeating Len Mattiace in a playoff. Weir missed the cut in 2004, but tied for fifth in 2005 and had top 10 finishes in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
When he won the Masters in 2003, Weir became only the second left-handed golfer to win a major. He has made the cut at Augusta just once since 2014.
George Knudson
An eight-time PGA Tour winner, George Knudson had three top 10 finishes at the Masters, including tying for second in 1969. Knudson finished one shot behind George Archer after missing a birdie chance on the 18th.
Augusta was Knudson’s most successful major. He didn’t record any other top 10 finishes in majors, and only had three top 25 finishes across 14 appearances at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open.
Adam Hadwin
Competing in only his seventh major at the 2018 Masters, Adam Hadwin tied for 24th. It followed a joint 36th placing in the previous edition.
Hadwin has only competed in two Masters since 2018, missing the cut in 2020 and tying for 53rd in 2024. The closest he’s come to winning a major was tying for seventh at the 2022 U.S. Open.
Stephen Ames
Ranked as high as 17th in the world at his peak, Stephen Ames made the cut in all five of his Masters appearances. Ames was a top 25 finisher on four occasions, including finishing tied for 11th in 2006.
Away from the Masters, Ames had six top 10 finishes at majors and emphatically won the Players Championship in 2006.
Mackenzie Hughes
Mackenzie Hughes has never been priced as one of the golf betting favourites at the Masters, but he’s made the cut in three of his four appearances at Augusta National.
Hughes’ best placing was a tie for 29th in 2023. His best major performance was at the 2021 Open Championship.
