The Montreal Canadiens enter the 2026-27 season with high hopes after their run to last season’s Eastern Conference final, but will they live up to the hype and make the postseason for the third straight season?
Canadiens Playoff Odds: Will the Habs Make the Playoffs?
I predict the Canadiens will make the 2026-27 playoffs.
They have -210 hockey odds at the BetMGM sportsbook to make the playoffs, which carry an implied probability of 67.57%.
The Canadiens are the second-youngest team (25.95 years) behind the Chicago Blackhawks (25.82 years). The youth movement has worked wonders for Martin St. Louis and Co., and the core is easily good enough to secure a third successive postseason berth.
While they are searching for upgrades at centre, specifically on the second line, the likes of Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, Lane Hutson, Ivan Demidov, and Juraj Slafkovský form the bedrock of the Canadiens’ present and future.
Even with their abundance of talent, Jakub Dobeš might prove to be the franchise’s most important player in forthcoming seasons.
The 25-year-old was among the Conn Smythe contenders during the Canadiens’ deep playoff run.
If he maintains that level of play between the pipes, the Canadiens will be a force to be reckoned with, and that includes punching a playoff ticket.
However, I don’t envision another trip to the conference final, and a second-round playoff exit is more likely.
