The Calgary Flames haven’t made the playoffs in four seasons and have one of the longest playoff droughts

Can Ryan Huska and Co. end the barren patch, or will it be another early spring on the golf course?

Flames Playoff Odds: Will Calgary Make the Playoffs?

I predict the Flames won’t make the 2026-27 playoffs, which is reinforced by their +900 at the BetMGM sportsbook

The Flames’ rebuilding project is coming together nicely for general manager Craig Conroy and Co., but the team is one, maybe two seasons away from returning to the postseason.

Once they do return, I expect them to be a regular fixture.

Calgary has an unrecognizable team compared to a few seasons ago, with a priority on injecting youth and speed into the lineup.

Recent moves to land 2022 second-overall pick Simon Nemec, who signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract, and ship Blake Coleman and Olli Määttä off to the Minnesota Wild are further evidence of the wholesale rebuild.

The Flames secured defenceman Jake Middleton, a 2027 third-round pick, a 2028 fourth-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick in return for the pair of departing veterans.

Drafting defenceman Carson Carels with the No. 6 pick in the 2026 draft was another win for the future, but the Flames will continue to endure serious teething pains in the meantime.

The only way Calgary will secure a postseason berth is if Dustin Wolf stands on his head, as he did throughout his 2024-25 rookie campaign.
