Who Is the Ottawa Senators Head Coach?

The Ottawa Senators turned the corner in 2024-25, making the playoffs for the first time since 2017. 

While their Stanley Cup odds weren’t among the favourites, the Senators showed signs of a team that should compete for a playoff spot for years. Their head coach, who took the reins before the 2024-25 season, is contracted until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.

Who Is the Ottawa Senators Head Coach?

The Ottawa Senators head coach is Travis Green. The 54-year-old took the coaching reins in May 2024, following Jacques Martin’s brief 56-game tenure. 

Green’s coaching career began in 2010 as an assistant coach of the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks. The Winterhawks won the WHL championship in 2023, marking the end of a successful tenure. 

Green landed his first coaching job the following season, taking the helm at the AHL’s Utica Comets. He remained in that job from 2013 to 2017, where he led the Comets to the final in his second season in charge. 

He landed his first NHL head coaching job in 2017 with the Vancouver Canucks, where he remained in charge for just over four seasons. 

The Canucks missed the playoffs in three of his four seasons behind the bench, with the 2019-20 season his most accomplished. The Canucks won two playoff rounds, eventually falling to the Vegas Golden Knights in seven games.

He spent one season with the New Jersey Devils, taking over as the interim head coach for the final two months of the 2023-24 season after Lindy Ruff was fired. 

In his first season as Ottawa’s head coach, Green led the team to the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons.

Green’s salary isn’t publicly available, although he made $1 million per season when he coached the Canucks.
