Since the passing of longtime Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk in 2022, the club has seen its perception as a small-market NHL city largely dissipate.

That’s thanks in large part to the club’s new leader, Michael Andlauer, a pharmaceutical logistics billionaire turned public-facing NHL owner and fierce supporter of his club.

Purchasing the club from Melnyk’s family in 2023, the 60-year-old served an understated but important role in Ottawa’s return to the NHL playoffs in 2025, and is poised to serve as a culture-changing leader for years to come.

How Much Is Michael Andlauer Worth?

Michael Andlauer’s net worth is estimated at approximately $1.2 billion, according to the Forbes 2025 list of billionaires, placing him towards the bottom of the NHL’s richest owners.

How Did Michael Andlauer Get Rich?

The story of Andlauer’s fortune begins in the 1990s, when he founded multiple transportation and logistics companies that grew into among the largest pharmaceutical logistics companies in Canada.

Eventually, Andlauer made his first foray into sports by purchasing a minority stake in the American Hockey League’s Hamilton Bulldogs in 2003.

His sports portfolio only grew from there, purchasing a majority stake in the Bulldogs’ ownership in 2004 before eventually purchasing a minor stake in the club’s affiliate Montreal Canadiens, in their centennial 2009 season.

That connection to the NHL would eventually serve Andlauer well, as he led a group in purchasing a 90% majority stake in the Ottawa Senators in 2023 for an estimated $950 million valuation.

More recently, Andlauer made major waves with his sale of Andlauer Healthcare Group to UPS in April of 2025, with an estimated sales price of $1.6 billion US, or approximately $2.2 billion Canadian.

Is Michael Andlauer a Billionaire?

Michael Andlauer is worth $1.2 billion according to Forbes. The Senators’ majority owner has appeared on the publication’s list twice, with his first appearance in 2024.

How Much Did Michael Andlauer Pay for the Senators?

In June 2023, Andlauer entered into an agreement with Eugene Melnyk’s family to purchase a 90% stake in the club, with Melnyk’s family retaining 10% interest.

The sale price was an estimated $950 million, per multiple reports.
