The Toronto Maple Leafs are hockey’s most valuable franchise, with a valuation of over $4 billion according to various outlets.

Regardless of the team’s Stanley Cup odds at any point of the season, the pocketbooks of all prominent figures at Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, the Maple Leafs’ parent company, have never been better.

By the 1990s, Larry Tanenbaum’s Kilmer Group had begun to make headway into the world of sports, first seeking to bring a professional basketball team to Toronto before eventually purchasing a stake in the Maple Leafs and Maple Leaf Gardens.

As a 25% equity owner of MLSE, an initiative he helped spearhead in 1998, Tanenbaum has since seen his wealth grow in part through the addition of other sports under the MLSE umbrella, including Toronto FC and the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts.
