Who Is the Youngest Player in the NHL Right Now?

New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer is the youngest player in the NHL right now at 18 years and 89 days as of December 3rd.

The 2025 first overall pick has taken the NHL by storm this season, ranking amongst rookie leaders across most statistical categories.

The former Erie Otter has also dominated play on both sides of the puck from a play-driving perspective, helping launch his name into the sleeper category as a member of Team Canada’s 2026 Olympic roster.
