Most Road Wins By One Team in One NHL Playoff Year

Teams that consistently do business on the road in the NHL playoffs will quickly become one of the favourites at the BetMGM sportsbook to lift the Stanley Cup.  

No team has won 11 road games in the same postseason, and seven teams tied for the most with 10. Six of those seven teams share something in common: They won the Stanley Cup. 

The 2004 Calgary Flames are the exception. They were, however, robbed of winning it all, thanks to the infamous non-goal call in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Most Road Wins in One NHL Playoffs

Calgary Flames (2004, 10 wins)

The Calgary Flames won four in a row in enemy territory and also posted a five-game road winning streak during their run to the 2004 Stanley Cup Final. 

Their first five road wins, three against the Vancouver Canucks and two against the Detroit Red Wings, were all by one goal.

Darryl Sutter’s team won all three road contests against the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference final and finished the postseason with a 10-4 away record despite losing in the final. 

St. Louis Blues (2019, 10 wins)

Remarkably, the St. Louis Blues enjoyed a 10-3 road record in the 2019 playoffs despite a feeble power play (8.1%). 

The Blues won their first four road games, including all three at Canada Life Centre against the Winnipeg Jets in the opening round. 

They went on to win three of four away contests against the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final, including the decisive Game 7.

Washington Capitals (2018, 10 wins)

Like the Blues, the Washington Capitals won their first four away games.

They won all three in the first round against the Columbus Blue Jackets, two of three against the Pittsburgh Penguins, three of four against the Lightning, and two of three over the Vegas Golden Knights in the final. 

The Caps finished with a 10-3 road record en route to the Stanley Cup. 

Florida Panthers (2025, 10 wins)

The Florida Panthers won all three road games against the Lightning in the first round before stumbling at Scotiabank Arena against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Games 1 and 2. 

They went on a tear thereafter, winning seven of eight, including five in a row to win the Stanley Cup. 

New Jersey Devils (2000, 10 wins)

In their 2000 Stanley Cup win, the New Jersey Devils suffered only two road defeats in 12 contests. 

They allowed more than one goal three times in those 12 games and prevented the Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars from scoring two goals on home ice in the last five games. 

New Jersey Devils (1995, 10 wins)

The 1995 Devils did one better than their 2000 counterparts, losing only once in 11 road playoff contests. 

That came in Game 1 of the second round against the Penguins. That was also the only away game in which the Devils conceded more than two goals. 

Los Angeles Kings (2012, 10 wins)

The 2012 Los Angeles Kings were the best road team in playoff history. 

While the 1995 Devils would likely debate that assertion, Sutter’s team reeled off 10 straight victories before losing their first and only road game in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Devils. 

They allowed more than two goals once on enemy terrain, a 4-3 overtime victory against the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 5 of the Western Conference final.
