Throughout the years, there have been countless magical moments in the Carolina Hurricanes’ playoff history.
Few were more exciting or important than sudden-death overtime goals. Worth their weight in gold, overtime goals, like any game-winners in the playoffs, impact a team’s hockey odds at the BetMGM sportsbook.
Only six Hurricanes have scored at least two overtime goals in the playoffs, two of whom are tied atop the list with three.
Two of those featured below still have a chance to add to their totals.
Who Has the Most Playoff Overtime Goals For the Hurricanes?
| Rank | Player | Overtime Goals | OT Games |
| T-3 | Sebastian Aho | 2 | 27 |
| T-3 | Jesper Fast | 2 | 11 |
| T-3 | Kevin Dineen | 2 | 10 |
| T-3 | Cory Stillman | 2 | 7 |
| T-1 | Jordan Staal | 3 | 27 |
| T-1 | Niclas Wallin | 3 | 21 |
T-3. Sebastian Aho (2)
Sebastian Aho’s two overtime goals have the same thing in common: both clinched a playoff series for the Hurricanes.
Aho scored his first golden goal in the opening round of the 2021 playoffs against the Nashville Predators, netting the series winner 1 minute, 6 seconds into overtime. The Hurricanes won the game 4-3 and the series 4-2.
His second series-clinching goal came 4:17 into double overtime of Game 5 against the New Jersey Devils in the first round of the 2025 playoffs.
T-3. Jesper Fast (2)
It didn’t take long for Jesper Fast to score his overtime game-winners, with the first coming 5:03 into the extra session and the second 7:09.
Both of his overtime goals came in the 2023 playoffs, one in Game 2 of the first round against the New York Islanders and the other in Game 5 of the second round against the Devils.
The goal against the Devils ended the series, booking the Hurricanes’ place in the Eastern Conference final.
T-3. Kevin Dineen (2)
Kevin Dineen scored both of his overtime playoff goals with the Hartford Whalers before the franchise relocated. He scored in Game 4 of the second round in the 1986 playoffs against the Montreal Canadiens, tying the series at two.
However, the Canadiens won the series in seven games en route to the Stanley Cup.
Dineen’s second overtime goal came four years later. In 1990, he scored against the Boston Bruins in Game 6 of the first round. Unfortunately, the Bruins won Game 7.
Dineen is also among the Hurricanes with the most game-winning goals in the playoffs.
T-3. Cory Stillman (2)
Among the Hurricanes with the most goals in one playoff, Cory Stillman scored two overtime game-winners in just seven overtime contests during the Hurricanes’ 2006 Stanley Cup run.
He scored the series-clinching Game 6 goal against the Canadiens in the first round and the overtime game-winner in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final versus the Buffalo Sabres.
T-1. Jordan Staal (3)
Jordan Staal scored two of his three overtime game-winners in the 2021 playoffs, with the first coming against the Predators in Game 5 of the first round. He scored his next instant game-winner against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 3 of the second round.
Preceding those magical moments, Staal scored his first overtime game-winner as a Hurricane in the second round of the 2019 playoffs. That came in Game 1 of the second round against the Islanders.
Staal is also among those with the most goals by a Hurricanes player in the playoffs.
T-11. Niclas Wallin (3)
Despite being among the Hurricanes with the most playoff games played, Niclas Wallin scored only three goals. Improbably, even miraculously, all three were overtime game-winners.
One of those came in the second round of the storied 2006 championship run. Wallin scored to put the Hurricanes up 2-0 against the Devils in the second round.
The other two came four years earlier in 2002, one of which was in the second round against the Canadiens and the other in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final versus the Toronto Maple Leafs.
