Most Goals in a Stanley Cup Final Series

The 2026 final is on course to be among the highest-scoring series in Stanley Cup Final history.

Two of the highest-scoring finals occurred on or after 2010, the most recent of which featured the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers in 2025. 

Let’s look at the other Stanley Cup Final series that had an explosion of goals throughout. 

Stanley Cup Final With Most Goals Combined

T-6. Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings – 1942 (44 goals)

The Toronto Maple Leafs outscored the Detroit Red Wings 25-19 in the 1942 Stanley Cup Final to win their first of five in an eight-year stretch. 

They won the highest-scoring game of the series 9-3 and scored 19 goals in four straight wins in Games 4 through 7. The Maple Leafs pulled off the comeback from 3-0 down in the series, joining an exclusive club.

T-6. Penguins vs. North Stars – 1991 (44 goals)

Mario Lemieux scored 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in just five Stanley Cup Final games against the Minnesota North Stars in 1991. 

The Penguins dominated the series, outscoring the North Stars 28-16 overall and 19-7 in Games 4, 5, and 6. 

The Pens won the highest-scoring game of the series 6-4 and annihilated Minnesota in the Game 6 clincher, winning 8-0. 

5. Panthers vs. Oilers – 2025 (45 goals)

The Panthers vs. the Oilers series was also among the most overtime-filled in a Stanley Cup Final. 

The Oilers entered as the Stanley Cup odds favourite at the BetMGM sportsbook, but the Panthers outscored them 28-17 and 16-4 in Games 3, 5, and 6. 

There were two nine-goal games, with the teams splitting those contests, both of which went to overtime.

T-3. Red Wings vs. Canadiens – 1955 (47 goals)

In 1955, the Red Wings outlasted the Canadiens in seven games to win the Stanley Cup. The Red Wings outscored the Canadiens 27-20 and 15-3 in Games 2, 5, and 7. 

There was a nine-goal game and two eight-goal contests.

T-3. Blackhawks vs. Flyers – 2010 (47 goals)

The Chicago Blackhawks outscored the Philadelphia Flyers 25-22 in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final and won their first Stanley Cup in 49 years. 

They won both 11-goal thrillers. The first was a 6-5 victory in Game 1, and the second was a 7-4 victory in Game 5. 

2. Islanders vs. Flyers – 1980 (51 goals)

Every game in the 1980 Stanley Cup Final had at least seven goals. Two had seven goals, one had eight, two had nine, and one had 11 goals. 

The New York Islanders outscored the Flyers 26-25 en route to their 4-2 series win. It was the Islanders’ first of four straight Stanley Cup Triumphs. 

1. Canadiens vs. Blackhawks – 1973 (56 goals)

The Montreal Canadiens and Blackhawks combined for 56 goals in 1973, the most in Stanley Cup Final history. 

The series had a bit of everything, including a four-goal game and a 15-goal game. The Canadiens outscored the Blackhawks 33-23 and 22-8 in their four wins.

The Oilers’ Jari Kurri holds the record for most goals in a playoff series, scoring 13 against the Blackhawks in 1985. 

What Scored the Most Goals in a Stanley Cup Final? 

Cyclone Taylor (Vancouver Millionaires), Frank Foyston (Seattle Metropolitans), and Babe Dye (Toronto St. Patricks) scored nine goals in a Stanley Cup Final, tied for the most.
