The Toronto Maple Leafs have gone from Atlantic Division powerhouse to laughingstock in less than a calendar year, now looking like prime candidates to clean house as their NHL playoff odds hang by a thread in mid-March.
With calls to shake up management and major surgery on the table for the Maple Leafs roster, it’s clear to those who bet online that there is going to be turnover this summer.
The most obvious place for some shakeup will be with the Maple Leafs’ pending free agents, both unrestricted and restricted, and whether they’ll opt to retain the five roster players headed to the open market.
Maple Leafs Free Agency Tracker for 2026
Matias Maccelli, Winger
Acquired in June 2025 from the Utah Mammoth as a salary cap dump, Maccelli has been a pleasant surprise for the Maple Leafs in a bounce-back season for the Finnish winger.
On pace to set a new career high mark for goals, the playmaking winger will reach restricted free agency this summer and will likely be looking for a raise from his $3.425 million cap hit.
It’s unclear whether the Maple Leafs will retain the 25-year-old; however, his production certainly warrants another look next year.
Calle Jarnkrok, Winger
Calle Jarnkrok’s time as a Maple Leaf has been rather tumultuous at times, as the Swedish forward has gone from surprise 20-goal contributor to 13th forward over the course of the four-year deal.
This will likely be Jarnkrok’s last hurrah not only with the Maple Leafs, but in the National Hockey League altogether, with the 34-year-old reportedly in talks to return to Sweden to play in the SHL for Brynas IF, even if his agent denies such discussions.
Nicholas Robertson, Winger
A former top prospect of the organization, Nicholas Robertson, has finally found his game during the 2025-26 season, pacing for career-highs across the board just in time for another crack at restricted free agency.
Still, Robertson is a far cry from the 50-goal scoring prospect he arrived as, and with numerous reports of trade requests over the years, alongside a new agent, the writing seems on the wall for a fresh start for the Pasadena, California native.
Jacob Quillan, Centre
Jacob Quillan signed with the Maple Leafs out of Quinnipiac University in 2024 and has spent parts of three seasons in the Maple Leafs minor league system.
Unlikely to earn a regular NHL spot in the short or long-term future, he’ll either return to the Maple Leafs on a cheap AHL contract or head for greener pastures elsewhere, potentially overseas.
Troy Stecher, Defence
Claimed by the Maple Leafs from the Edmonton Oilers amidst a litany of early injuries on defence, Stecher has been something of an unsung hero, serving as one of their most reliable defenders.
Playing for league minimum, Stecher has proven he still has something left in the tank as a productive, bottom-pairing defenceman, and could be one of the few free agent candidates the Maple Leafs look at bringing back next season.
