Before the start of the postseason, the Carolina Hurricanes were the hockey odds favourite at the BetMGM sportsbook to represent the Eastern Conference in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final.

They’ve lived up to the hype and then some, becoming the first team in four-round playoffs featuring best-of-seven series to lose only one game in advance of the Stanley Cup Final.

While another championship could soon be on tap, when was the last time the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup?

When Did the Hurricanes Previously Win the Stanley Cup?

The Hurricanes’ playoff history has been full of heartbreak, highlighted by four successive Eastern Conference final defeats.

However, they have also summited the peak of the sport, advancing to the Stanley Cup Final three times – including the forthcoming 2026 final – and winning it once. Their lone championship occurred in 2006, when they beat the Edmonton Oilers in a back-and-forth seven-game series.

Rod Brind’Amour, head coach of the 2026 team, was the captain of the 2006 Hurricanes. He has been a part of the Hurricanes, as a head coach or player, for 98 of the franchise’s 100 playoff victories.

In 2002, the Hurricanes reached the Stanley Cup Final for the first time, losing in five games to the Detroit Red Wings.
