What Is the Calder Memorial Trophy?
The Calder Memorial Trophy is the NHL’s version of Rookie of the Year. Named after Frank Calder, the first president of the NHL, it’s been in existence since the 1936-37 season.
It replaced the NHL’s Rookie of the Year Award, which was given out from 1933-36.
Has a Canadiens Player Won the Calder?
Seven players from the Montreal Canadiens have won the Calder Memorial Trophy, including defenseman Lane Hutson last year.
Hutson was the team’s first winner in more than 40 years, ending a drought that started after Ken Dryden won in 1972. Dryden was the Canadiens’ sixth winner between 1941 and 1972.
