Teams that have lost a combined three of their previous 26 games will battle for the Stanley Cup.

The Carolina Hurricanes are the Stanley Cup odds favourite at the BetMGM online sportsbook entering the final after running the table with an almost unblemished 12-1 record.

They face the Vegas Golden Knights, who are 11-2 in their previous 13 playoff games.

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction: Stanley Cup Final Preview

I predict the Hurricanes will win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2006.

While there is the argument that they faced a softer schedule with weaker opponents, take nothing away from what the Hurricanes accomplished.

They are the first team since the 1987 expansion to four playoff rounds, all of which include best-of-seven series, to lose just once entering the Stanley Cup Final.

It’s not just their record, but how they went about their business that is most impressive. The Hurricanes’ only defeat came after 11 days off. They were caught off

Carolina is 6-0 on the road, 5-0 in overtime and has scored first in 11 of 13 games. And they have put on a defensive clinic, allowing more than two goals once while conceding a paltry 22.3 shots per contest.

I have no doubt the Golden Knights, 19-4-1 since John Tortorella took the helm, will provide a much sterner test.

Like the Hurricanes, they have been almost flawless since Game 6 against the Utah Mammoth, with an 11-2 record. In the last 11 games, the Golden Knights have scored 3.64 goals per game while conceding 1.91.

Receiving offensive production from all four lines, the Golden Knights represent a formidable challenge. However, the Hurricanes have been working toward this moment for eight years.

They are battle-tested, yet fresh. And, aside from a deficient power play (12.5%), there are no other disconcerting frailties for the Golden Knights to expose.

I’m backing the Hurricanes to win in seven games.

Golden Knights vs. Hurricanes: Who’s Hot?

After a slight blip in the first two games of the Eastern Conference final, Jackson Blake, Logan Stankoven, and Taylor Hall are back to their best.

Hall and Stankoven scored three points in Game 5 against the Montreal Canadiens, and all three are among the Conn Smythe Trophy odds front-runners.

Frederik Andersen wasn’t at his best in the first three games against the Canadiens, but he recovered well in Games 4 and 5, finishing with 2.03 goals saved above expected and a shutout in those contests.

Mitch Marner leads all scorers with 21 points and is the favourite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. Mark Stone scored a goal in three of the four games against the Colorado Avalanche, and Carter Hart has conceded more than two goals in two of the last 11 encounters.

Golden Knights vs. Hurricanes Best Bets

At -149, the hockey odds for the Hurricanes to win the Cup are short, so I’ve added two other bets: I expect it to be a long series, with Carolina prevailing. I like them to win two of the opening three games.

I backed Hart to make at least 20 saves in every game of the Western Conference final, which he accomplished. Considering the Hurricanes’ unmatched ability to fire pucks on goal, I’m going back to that pick.

  • Hurricanes to win Stanley Cup: -149
  • Hurricanes 2-1 after 3 games: +115
  • Carter Hart 20+ saves in each game: +110
