  • The Detroit Red Wings have lost nine of their last 11 games.
  • Detroit is a long shot to win the Stanley Cup at +12500 odds.
  • The Red Wings have +1200 odds to reach the postseason.

Time is running out on the Detroit Red Wings’ 2024-25 campaign.

Saturday’s 6-3 setback in Vegas was the Red Wings’ ninth regulation defeat in their previous 11 games and the latest sign that the proud Original Six franchise will likely extend its postseason drought to nine seasons.

Detroit’s dismal stretch has seen it fall way off the pace in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. Todd McLellan’s squad enters the week five points adrift of the Montreal Canadiens for the final playoff spot with 13 games remaining.

While that gap isn’t insurmountable, the Wings would also have to jump three other teams between them and the Canadiens, and they haven’t shown any flashes of promise in recent weeks.

Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup Odds

Over the past week, the Red Wings’ Stanley Cup odds have steadied at +12500. However, that likely has more to do with the wild-card contenders above them failing to extend the gap than anything Detroit has done.

Columbus has lost six straight games, earning just one point over that stretch. The Rangers dropped two of three contests last week. Montreal fell in back-to-back games but at least earned a point in both.

The Islanders are the only wild-card team that surged forward last week, picking up five points in three games, including a crucial overtime victory over the Habs.

After McLellan took over, the Wings looked like a team that could make a Stanley Cup run. But now, it appears that the run of good results was simply a new-coach bounce.

Detroit Red Wings Eastern Conference Odds

Detroit’s hockey odds of winning the Eastern Conference have continued to plummet. It is now a +10000 long shot to reach the Stanley Cup Final after being +8000 last week.

Interestingly, the Wings’ price has fallen further in this market, as these line movements tend to correlate with similar shifts in the Stanley Cup odds.

The East-leading Washington Capitals’ impressive winning streak could have had that impact, as they would be Detroit’s likely first-round opponent should it manage to turn things around.

Detroit Red Wings Atlantic Division Odds

The Red Wings’ odds to win the Atlantic Division remain off the board at the BetMGM online sportsbook.

The division title remains very much up for grabs, as just four points separate the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs at the top.

Detroit remains a long way off the pace, sitting in sixth place, 19 points adrift of Florida, with just 26 possible points remaining. If things don’t improve, the Wings could be mathematically eliminated from the division race by next week.

Detroit Red Wings Playoff Odds

Detroit had +220 odds to make the playoffs as recently as March 1, but those have since ballooned to +1200.

That’s the consequence of dropping seven of nine games during the season’s most critical stretch.

Things won’t get easier from here, as the Wings will play eight of their final 13 games on the road and 10 of their final 13 opponents are currently in playoff positions.

Given the team’s brutal schedule and recent form, it’s difficult to see Detroit overcoming these long odds.

Detroit Red Wings Next Game

  • Opponent: Utah Hockey Club
  • Date: Monday
  • Time: 9 p.m. ET
  • TV: FDSN, ESPN+
  • Radio: WXYT 97.1FM

After dropping the first two games of their road trip, the Red Wings are entering must-win territory on Monday night when they visit the Utah Hockey Club.

Utah defeated Detroit 4-2 at Little Caesars Arena earlier this month and is coming off back-to-back wins at the Delta Center over Tampa Bay and Buffalo. The hosts are equally desperate, sitting six points adrift of the hard-charging St. Louis Blues for the West’s final wild-card spot.

After conceding 10 goals across the last two games, Detroit needs to get its act together defensively against a Utah side that has scored 11 times in its previous two outings. Given what’s at stake, expect both teams to leave everything on the ice.

Following Monday’s contest, the Wings will wrap up their road trip with a visit to Ball Arena to take on the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. They return home for pivotal contests against Ottawa and Boston on Thursday and Saturday.
