Canadiens With Most Game-Winning Goals In Playoffs

Stephane Richer scored nine game-winning goals for the Montreal Canadiens in the playoffs, his last of which came against the Boston Bruins in 1991.

Some of his goals, like the game-winner he scored in the 1986 postseason, improved the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup odds

His playoff exploits were the most recent on the list of Canadiens with the most game-winning goals in the playoffs.

10. Henri Richard (9 GWG)

Henri Richard scored nine game-winning goals, but he only had one postseason in which he scored more than one. 

That came in 1972-73, when he scored the winner in Games 3 and 5 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

9. Mats Naslund (9 GWG)

Mats Naslund scored eight of his nine playoff winners in three playoffs (1984, 1985, 1987). He only managed one in his final four postseasons. 

8. Stephane Richer (9 GWG)

Richer scored at least one winner in all six playoffs with the Canadiens, including one during the Canadiens’ 1986 Stanley Cup run. He netted three in the 1989 playoffs, the most of his career. 

He scored nine of his 13 winners with the Habs and four with the New Jersey Devils. 

7. Claude Provost (10 GWG)

Claude Provost scored three of his 10 playoff winners in the 1958-59 playoffs, helping the Canadiens win the Stanley Cup. 

The most important of which clinched the series against the Chicago Black Hawks, securing a spot in the Stanley Cup Final. 

6. Jacques Lemaire (11 GWG)

The Canadiens won the Stanley Cup in every postseason in which Jacques Lemaire scored at least one winner. 

He scored three in the 1976-77 playoffs, the most of his illustrious career.

5. Bernie Geoffrion (14 GWG)

Bernie Geoffrion notched at least one winner in eight of his first 10 playoffs, registering the most of his career (3) during the 1954-55 postseason. 

4. Guy Lafleur (14 GWG)

Guy Lafleur scored 13 of his 14 game-winning goals in five playoffs between 1974 and 1979. He scored four, the most of his career, in the 1975 playoffs despite the Canadiens losing to the Buffalo Sabres in the conference final. 

3. Jean Beliveau (15 GWG)

Jean Beliveau scored four game-winning goals in the Canadiens’ 1964-65 Stanley Cup run. He scored three in the 1959-60 playoffs, which also led to a Stanley Cup.  

2. Yvan Cournoyer (15 GWG)

Yvan Cournoyer scored at least one winner in 10 of 12 playoffs and scored his most (3) in the 1972-73 Stanley Cup run. Arguably, his most important came in Game 6 against the Black Hawks, which clinched the Cup. 

1. Maurice Richard (18 GWG)

With 18 game-winning playoff goals, Maurice Richard stands alone. He scored 10 winners in four playoffs from 1954 to 1958. The Canadiens won the Cup twice in those four seasons.
