Hockey is recognized as Canada’s national sport, so it’s no surprise that most Canadian NHL franchises thrive – including the Edmonton Oilers, five-time champions who have also had some of the best Stanley Cup odds in recent years.
However, not every Canadian NHL team has enjoyed the same success, with some franchises dissolving or relocating to the United States.
Below are all the Canadian NHL teams that have moved to the U.S.
NHL Canada Teams That Moved to the U.S.
Since the NHL was founded in 1917-18, 20 teams have either been relocated or dissolved.
Seven of those clubs were Canadian-based teams, while only three relocated to the United States: the original Ottawa Senators (to St. Louis), Quebec Nordiques (to Colorado), and the original Winnipeg Jets (to Phoenix).
