Canada vs Czechia Prediction, Odds, & Best Bets: IIHF World Championship

As has been the case since the start of the tournament, Canada is the hockey odds favourite at the BetMGM sportsbook to win gold at the IIHF World Championship, with its final round robin game against second-place Czechia on tap. 

Canada won all six contests, and Czechia has lost twice, one of which a 3-2 overtime setback to Slovenia.

Backing Czechia at +2.5, I’m predicting it will keep things close against undefeated Canada with the quarterfinals beckoning. 

In four of six games, Canada went into the third period tied with the opposition. Against Slovakia, Canada led 2-0 entering the final frame. 

Canada enjoyed a lead of more than two goals in only one game entering the final 20 minutes, against a markedly inferior Italian team. 

Czechia, meanwhile, has only lost once in regulation. In addition, four of its five games were decided by one goal. The two exceptions came against Denmark, which Czechia beat 4-1, and Norway, a 4-1 defeat. 

Canada secured a 5-1 victory over the Danes, scoring all five goals in the third period.

Prediction: Czechia +2.5

Czechia has shown an impressive ability to win close encounters, with two of its four victories by one goal, one by two goals, and the other a more comfortable result against Denmark. 

Canada has struggled to gain separation in most of its games, and I expect a similar game script with so much on the line for both teams.
