Best New Jersey Devils Players of All Time

One of the NHL’s most successful franchises of the 1990s, which is often why they had solid Stanley Cup odds during the decade, the New Jersey Devils won three championships between 1995 and 2003.

The Devils’ history has been marked by exceptional players who have helped the team carve its unique legacy in the NHL. These players’ extraordinary skills and achievements have provided plenty of memorable moments for fans and represent the best of the New Jersey Devils.

1. Martin Brodeur

Martin Brodeur redefined the goaltending position and is synonymous with the Devils’ success. His 688 wins and 125 shutouts are NHL records.

He allowed an average of 2.02 goals per game in his playoff career and backstopped the Devils to three Stanley Cup victories. Brodeur’s 21 seasons in New Jersey showcased his durability and consistency, making him an iconic figure in Devils lore. 

2. Patrik Elias

The Devils’ all-time leading scorer, Patrik Elias tallied 408 goals and 1,025 points over his remarkable 21-year career in New Jersey. He scored six game-winning playoff goals, highlighted by his winning snipe against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 7 of the 2000 Eastern Conference Finals. 

Elias was a massive part of the Devils’ 2003 Stanley Cup run, scoring five goals. 

3. Scott Stevens

Known for his physical style of play, Scott Stevens was the backbone of the Devils’ defence during their most successful years. He played a crucial role in all three of the team’s Stanley Cup victories, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2000. 

Stevens played a total of 956 games for the franchise. His towering presence on the New Jersey blueline transformed the team into a defensive powerhouse and earned Stevens a place among hockey’s elite defencemen. 

4 Scott Niedermayer

Famous for his skating ability and offensive prowess from the blue line, Scott Niedermayer was a crucial cog in the Devils’ success. He led the 2003 playoffs with 18 points and was a huge part of the team’s three Stanley Cup victories. 

Niedermayer won the Norris Trophy in 2004 as the league’s best defenceman.

5. Ken Daneyko

Affectionately known as “Mr.Devil,” Ken Daneyko spent his entire career in New Jersey. His 1,283 games played, along with playing on the top defensive line for three Stanley Cup-winning teams, made him a beloved figure among Devils fans. 

Daneyko’s No. 3 jersey was retired by the Devils in 2006. 

6. John MacLean

John MacLean was a key offensive player in the Devils’ early years, compiling four seasons of 70 or more points. He ranks second in goals (347), and sixth in games played (934) in franchise history. 

MacLean scored the goal that clinched the Devil’s first-ever playoff berth in 1988. 

7. Zach Parise 

Zach Parise was the central figure in New Jersey’s offence during his time with the franchise, scoring 194 goals to go along with 216 assists.

He led the Devils to the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals and sits 10th in franchise history with 410 points.
