After beating the New York Islanders to end their playoff chances, the Montreal Canadiens still have a chance of winning the Atlantic Division with one game remaining.

However, with a game in hand, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres have a better chance of securing the division crown.

Can the Canadiens Win the Atlantic Division This Year?

The Canadiens’ odds to win the Atlantic Division are off the board.

With the best points percentage since March 17 (.800), the Canadiens are surging at the right time.

But despite being hotter than a vindaloo, they aren’t the betting favourite to win the Atlantic Division, according to their hockey odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook.

The Sabres, tied with the Canadiens on 106 points, are in first place with two remaining games, thanks to owning the tiebreaker. Both teams are two points ahead of the chasing Lightning.

The Habs will need to win their last game and hope the Sabres secure just one point from their final two games, while requiring the Lightning to drop at least one point in their last two games.

While I feel they will fall just short of their ultimate goal, the Habs will enter the postseason full of confidence. It makes you wonder why Martin St. Louis isn’t the coach of the year favourite
