The Philadelphia Eagles overcame their NFL futures odds to win the Super Bowl in 2024 on the back of a much-improved defense that stifled Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Philadelphia’s unit recorded six sacks and forced three turnovers in the championship-winning effort, including a second-quarter interception that Cooper DeJean returned for a touchdown.
The Eagles managed to keep hold of their stellar defensive coordinator this offseason, but he’ll have his hands full reshaping a unit that lost several key contributors.
Who Is the Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Coordinator?
The Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator is Vic Fangio.
Fangio is entering his second season as the Philadelphia DC after joining in January 2024.
His debut campaign went about as well as possible, as the Eagles led the NFL in total yards allowed (278.4 per game) and were second in points allowed (17.8 per game). Philadelphia had ranked 26th and 30th in those categories in 2023.
The 67-year-old is one of the most distinguished defensive minds in football, having spent the majority of the past four decades coaching at the NFL level.
Fangio has held the defensive coordinator post with the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Carolina Panthers. He also served as head coach of the Denver Broncos for three seasons, posting a 19-30 record.
