Who Is the Buffalo Bills Defensive Coordinator?
Jim Leonhard is the Bills’ defensive coordinator.
Leonhard joined the team in January 2026 to serve as defensive coordinator under Joe Brady. Leonhard had previously served as assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator for the Denver Broncos.
A former safety, Leonhard had two stints with the Bills during his 10-year NFL career. Retiring more than a decade ago, he’s delivered coaching clinics online, where he’s emphasised the importance of positional flexibility on the defensive side of the ball. He’s also had a spell as an interim head coach with the Wisconsin Badgers.
Bills fans can expect to see a hybrid 3-4 defence from Leonhard. He will be adaptable with his defensive scheme and will readily switch to a four-man front if required.
