If there were such a thing as NFL futures odds on which owner would sell their team next,

I’d guess the Dallas Cowboys’ Jerry Jones, one of the richest NFL owners, would be low on that list.

Below, I’ll dive into Jones’ background, examining his net worth, where his wealth came from, and more.

What Is Jerry Jones’ Net Worth?

According to Forbes‘ “The Richest in 2025” list, Jones and his family have a net worth of $16.6 billion, ranking 127th globally.

Why Is Jerry Jones So Rich?

Jones earned his fortune in Arkansas oil. In 1982, he purchased oil leases for $15 million. He then invested an additional $35 million in drilling and related activities. Four years later, in 1986, the company that originally sold him the leases bought Jones and his partner, Jack Evans, out for $175 million.

Jones comes from a wealthy background, as his father, Pat Jones, was an insurance executive in Arkansas. Jones also founded Jones Oil and Land Lease, a company he created after college.

In 1989, Jones bought the Cowboys for $140 million from H. R. “Bum” Bright.

How Much Is the Jones Family Worth?

According to a Forbes profile, “Jerry Jones & family” is worth $20.6 billion as of Jan. 15, 2026.
