  • Ben Johnson (+650) is the favourite for the Coach of the Year award as he enters his first season as the Bears' head coach.
  • Mike Vrabel (+875) is second in his first season as head coach for the New England Patriots, a team he played for.
  • Jim Harbaugh (+1000) is third as he enters his second season as the Chargers head coach.

Atop the NFL futures odds for the Coach of the Year award is a first-year head coach in the NFC North.

Below are my picks and predictions for the award using football odds from the BetMGM online sportsbook

Prediction: Who Will Win the 2025-26 NFL Coach of the Year?

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is atop the odds for the 2025-26 NFL Coach of the Year award at +650, followed by:

  • Mike Vrabel, New England Patriots (+875)
  • Jim Harbaugh, Los Angeles Chargers (+1000)
  • Liam Coen, Jacksonville Jaguars (+1400)
  • Dave Canales, Carolina Panthers (+1400)
  • Pete Carroll, Las Vegas Raiders (+1400)

The two coaches at the bottom of the odds are interesting, the two head coaches that appeared in Super Bowl 59:

  • Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs (+8000)
  • Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia Eagles (+8000)

I predict Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton will win the Coach of the Year award. The Broncos overperformed massively last season despite the dead money left over from cutting ties with Russell Wilson.

The team had the Defensive Player of the Year, Patrick Surtain II, and drafted another versatile defensive back, Jahdae Barron, in the first round to further improve their defence.

The Broncos will be a tough team to play against next season.

NFL Coach of the Year Favourites & Predictions

Ben Johnson NFL Coach of the Year Odds +650

Johnson is +650 to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

He’s the hottest name in coaching, and understandably so after putting together a dominant offence with the Lions. They finished in the top five in points per game each season he was offensive coordinator, including first with 33.1 per outing last season.

Now, he has an offence featuring the 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, two excellent receivers in Rome Odunze and D.J. Moore, and now, two tight ends with Cole Kmet and the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Colston Loveland.

I expect the offence to improve, but coming into a team that’s been down in the dumps for a bit and as a first-year head coach, it could be a tall task.

Mike Vrabel NFL Coach of the Year Odds +875

Vrabel is +875 to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

After taking last season off from being a head coach, Vrabel is back with the Patriots after playing for them from 2001 to 2008.

At No. 4 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, they took offensive lineman Will Campbell to help protect quarterback Drake Maye.

The Patriots picked the top four for a reason, and Vrabel, who had success as a head coach with the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023, will look to turn this team around.

Jim Harbaugh NFL Coach of the Year Odds +1000

Harbaugh is +1000 to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

The Chargers finished 11-6 last season with Harbaugh in his first season. They lost in the wild-card round to the Houston Texans after quarterback Justin Herbert threw four interceptions.

In the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, they took a dynamic running back in Omarion Hampton to help take this run game to the next level.

Andy Reid NFL Coach of the Year Odds +8000

Reid is +8000 to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Jumping to the bottom of the list, we have Reid. This has to be correlated to success fatigue because Reid deserves the award every season.

Of course, though, the award targets coaches on teams that improve massively.

It’s hard to improve when you attend the Super Bowl every year.

Nick Sirianni NFL Coach of the Year Odds +8000

Sirianni is +8000 to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Same case as Reid here. Sirianni and the Eagles won Super Bowl 59.

They took linebacker Jihaad Campbell at No. 31 overall, the top linebacker in the draft out of Alabama.

There have been some health concerns with Nakobe Dean, and Campbell will fill in nicely.

He won’t win the award, but I’m sure he’s OK with passing things like this up in favour of Super Bowl success.
