When it comes to evaluating football odds for a team like the Seattle Seahawks, one player can sway the odds because of that player’s star power.

These are players that are always in the running for their respective NFL futures odds, whether that’s the MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, or Offensive Player of the Year award.

The Seahawks have had some draft picks that fit that mould perfectly, and below, I’ll list the seven best draft picks in Seahawks history.

Top Draft Picks in Seahawks History

7. Shaun Alexander, RB, 2000 (No. 19 Overall)

Alexander spent eight seasons with the Seahawks, and he was sensational. He ran 2,176 times for 9,429 yards and 100 touchdowns. He also caught 214 passes for 1,511 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He was the NFL MVP in 2005, and since then, only two other running backs have earned the award. He was also the NFL Offensive Player of the Year that season, leading the league in rushing, rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns. In his nine-year career, he was named a first-team All-Pro twice and made three Pro Bowls.

6. Earl Thomas, S, 2010 (No. 14 Overall)

The Seahawks found their center fielder for their legendary “Legion of Boom” defence in Thomas. Not only was he part of the Super Bowl 48-winning roster, but he was a three-time first-team All-Pro, two-time second-team All-Pro, and seven-time Pro Bowler.

He recorded 28 interceptions, 664 tackles, 67 passes defended, and 10 forced fumbles over his nine seasons with the Seahawks.

5. Cortez Kennedy, DT, 1990 (No. 3 Overall)

A defensive tackle, Kennedy is fourth in Seahawks history in sacks with 58. He was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1992), a three-time first-team All-Pro, a two-time second-team All-Pro, made eight Pro Bowls, and the Seahawks retired his No. 96.

4. Bobby Wagner, LB, 2012 (No. 47 Overall)

A second-round pick, the Seahawks discovered one of the best linebackers in NFL history.

He was part of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl 48 championship team, but as for individual accolades, he has been named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year (2025), is a six-time first-team All-Pro, a five-time second-team All-Pro, has made 10 Pro Bowls, and has led the NFL in combined tackles three times and solo tackles once.

In fact, he‘s one of three players in NFL history to record 2,000 or more combined tackles, joining London Fletcher and Ray Lewis.

3. Richard Sherman, CB, 2011 (No. 154 Overall)

One of the best cornerbacks for roughly a half-decade, Sherman flew way under the radar and wasn’t drafted until the fifth round.

He turned that into a career that culminated in a Super Bowl 48 win, and he was a three-time first-team All-Pro, a two-time second-team All-Pro, a five-time Pro Bowler, and led the NFL in interceptions in 2013 (eight).

Over seven seasons with the Seahawks, he had 32 interceptions, two pick-sixes, 99 passes defended, and never allowed more than 51.8% of passes thrown his way to be caught in a single season.

2. Walter Jones, OT, 1997 (No. 6 Overall)

I’d consider Jones one of the best Seahawks players of all time. He was one of the most dominant offensive tackles in the NFL, resulting in him becoming a four-time first-team All-Pro, two-time second-team All-Pro, and a nine-time Pro Bowler.

He’s a member of the Seahawks’ Ring of Honour, his No. 71 is retired, and he’s enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

1. Russell Wilson, QB, 2012 (No. 75 Overall)

The Seahawks had signed former Green Bay Packers backup Matt Flynn to a long-term deal, but also took Wilson in the third round of the 2012 draft. Well, Flynn never got on the field after Wilson beat him out in the preseason.

Now, Wilson is the Seahawks’ all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, pass attempts, pass completions, wins, and is also fifth in rushing yards.

He, along with the Legion of Boom defence, led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl 48 win. He was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year (2020), was the fan-voted NFL Rookie of the Year, a second-team All-Pro, a 10-time Pro Bowler, and led the NFL in passing touchdowns (2017) and passer rating (2015).
