While sports betting sites like BetMGM, which offer football odds and NFL parlays for teams like the Buffalo Bills, haven’t always been around, fans of the team can only wish that were the case in the mid-1990s, when the Bills had some of their best seasons.
Below, I’ll rank the five best seasons in Bills history.
Best Seasons in Buffalo Bills History
5. 2020 (13-3)
After going 13-3 in the regular season, the Bills reached the AFC championship but lost 38-24 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Still, it’s one of their best seasons, as Josh Allen had the best season of his career up until that point, completing 69.2% of his passes for 4,544 yards, 37 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and running for eight touchdowns. He went to the Pro Bowl, was a second-team All-Pro, and finished second in the MVP voting.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs had the best season of his career, catching 127 passes for 1,535 yards, both of which led the NFL.
4. 1991 (13-3)
During the 1990s, the Bills went to four straight Super Bowls, and 1991 was one of those seasons. Under Marv Levy, the team finished 13-3, and quarterback Jim Kelly tossed 33 touchdowns. Kelly was a first-team All-Pro and finished second in the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year voting.
He finished second in the MVP voting to his teammate and running back Thurman Thomas, who ran 288 times for 1,407 yards and seven touchdowns, and caught 62 passes for 631 yards and five more scores.
3. 1990 (13-3)
Just a year before 1991, the Bills also went 13-3 under Levy and lost in the Super Bowl in heartbreaking fashion.
The Bills led the game 19-17 in the fourth quarter before a 21-yard field goal by Giants kicker Matt Bahr won them the game.
Thomas was fantastic in the Super Bowl, rushing 15 times for 135 yards, a touchdown, and catching five passes for 55 yards.
2. 1965 (10-3-1)
The Bills debuted in 1960, and in the mid-1960s, they won back-to-back AFL titles.
They went 10-3-1 in 1965, and beat the San Diego Chargers 23-0 in the title game.
Quarterback Jack Kemp was a first-team All-Pro, and almost everyone on the team was a Pro Bowler.
1. 1964 (12-2)
While the Bills have never won a Super Bowl, they did win two AFL titles, and 1964 was their first. They beat the Chargers 20-7.
This version of the Bills was led by fullback Cookie Gilchrist, who ran 230 times for 981 yards and six touchdowns, all of which led the AFL that season.
