While the tight end position has had star power over the years, helping turn teams into perennial NFL futures odds favourites and favoured in football spreads at sports betting sites like BetMGM, that’s not really the case with the Buffalo Bills.

Despite their lack of star power at the position, I’ll rank the seven best to suit up for them.

Greatest Buffalo Bills Tight Ends

7. Charles Clay

The Bills spent big money at the time. While he didn’t necessarily work out, given how much was paid for him, he still caught 178 passes for 1,822 yards and nine touchdowns. His receptions rank fifth all-time in Bills history among tight ends, and the receiving yards rank sixth.

6. Reuben Gant

Gant was with the Bills from 1974 to 1980. He caught 127 passes for 1,850 yards and 15 touchdowns. Those 15 touchdowns are fifth all-time among Bills tight ends.

5. Ernie Warlick

Warlick’s NFL career began in the CFL, but he was with the Bills from 1962 to 1965. With them, he won two AFL titles, was a four-time AFL All-Star, and is a member of the Bills’ Silver Anniversary team.

4. Scott Chandler

Chandler played for many teams over his career, but he spent most of his time with the Bills, from 2010 to 2014.

He caught 182 passes for 2,120 yards and 17 touchdowns.

3. Jay Riemersma

Riemersma was a seventh-round pick by the Bills in 1996 and remained with them through 2002.

He caught 204 passes for 2,304 yards and 20 touchdowns. His 20 touchdowns are third among all Bills tight ends.

2. Dawson Knox

Knox was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Bills, and heading into the 2026-27 season, he’s still with the team.

In addition to being named to the Pro Bowl in 2022, he’s caught 229 passes for 2,694 yards and 27 touchdowns and counting.

His 27 touchdowns are the most among all Bills tight ends.

1. Pete Metzelaars

Metzelaars was with the Bills from 1985 to 1994, and he caught 302 passes for 2,931 yards and 25 touchdowns.

He currently holds the franchise tight end records in receptions and yards. He’s second in touchdowns.

Metzelaars is a member of the Bills’ 50th anniversary squad.
