While defence has been a bit of an issue for the Bills during their dominant run, they’ve had some recent defensive backs step up and play well. 

That said, the best in franchise history trace back to the 1960s.

7. Micah Hyde

Hyde signed with the Bills as a free agent in 2017 and remained with them through 2024. 

During his time with Buffalo, he was a two-time second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection. 

He recorded 16 interceptions and one pick-six.

6. Henry Jones

Jones was with the Bills from 1991 to 2000. Jones recorded 18 interceptions and returned four for touchdowns. 

He was a first-team All-Pro, went to a Pro Bowl, co-led the NFL in interceptions in 1992, and is a member of the Bills’ 50th anniversary squad.

5. Nate Odomes

A second-round pick by the Bills in 1987, Odomes was with the Bills through 1993. He was a second-team All-Pro, went to two Pro Bowls, was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie squad, a member of the Bills’ 50th anniversary squad,  and was the NFL’s co-leader in interceptions in 1993. 

Odomes finished his time with the Bills with 26 interceptions (fifth in franchise history) and a pick-six.

4. Tre’Davious White

White was a dominant cornerback for the Bills before he began dealing with injuries toward the end of his first run with the team. 

A first-round pick by the Bills in 2017, he was with them through 2023, but returned in 2025. 

While with the team, he was a first-team All-Pro, second-team All-Pro, went to two Pro Bowls, was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie squad, and co-led the NFL in interceptions in 2019.

3. Jordan Poyer

Poyer spent eight years with the Bills across two separate stints.

While with the Bills, Poyer was a first-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection. 

Poyer posted 23 interceptions, which is tied for seventh in Bills’ history.

2. George Saimes

Saimes was with the Bills from 1963 to 1969. He won two AFL titles, was three-time first-team All-AFL, two-time second-team All-AFL, and was a five-time AFL All-Star. 

He recorded 22 interceptions over his career, which is tied for eighth in Bills history.

1. Butch Byrd

The Bills selected Byrd in the fourth round of the 1964 AFL Draft. He was with the Bills from 1964 to 1970 and won two AFL titles.

Byrd was also a three-time first-team All-AFL, a two-time second-team All-AFL, a five-time AFL All-Star, and is a member of the Bills’ 50th anniversary team.

He’s the Bills’ all-time leader in interceptions with 40.
