San Diego State Aztecs All-Time Greatest Basketball Players
1. Michael Cage
Cage suited up for the Aztecs from 1980 to 1984 and was a consensus second-team All-American, two-time WAC Player of the Year, and two-time first-team All-WAC.
He averaged 16.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per game across his 112 starts. As a senior, he averaged 24.5 points and 12.6 rebounds.
Across his four seasons, he logged 1,846 points (second in program history), 1,317 rebounds (first), and 118 blocks (fifth).
He scored 686 points during the 1983-84 season, second in Aztecs history.
Cage also holds the single-game record for rebounds with 26 in a game against LaSalle during the 1980-81 season.
2. Kawhi Leonard
Leonard played two seasons at San Diego State from 2009 to 2011. He was a consensus second-team All-American and two-time first-team All-MWC, and the program retired his No. 15.
He finished his career there with 716 rebounds (eighth). He holds the No. 2 spot in single-season rebounds with 380 during the 2010-11 season.
Over his two seasons and 69 starts, he averaged 14.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
3. Brandon Heath
Heath, the 2006 MWC Player of the Year, played for the Aztecs for four seasons from 2003 to 2007.
He’s the program’s all-time leading scorer (2,189), notched 394 assists (fourth), and had 217 steals (second).
After this freshman season, he averaged at least 18.3 points per game over the next three years.
4. Tony Gwynn
Before going on to have a Hall of Fame baseball career, Gwynn was quite an excellent point guard for the Aztecs. While he wasn’t an offensive juggernaut, averaging just 8.6 points per game over his career, he’s the Aztecs all-time leader in assists (590).
He also holds the single-season record (221 in 1979-80) and the single-game record (18 during the 1979-80 season against UNLV).
Finally, he was a two-time All-WAC.
5. Jaedon LeDee
LeDee played five seasons of college basketball. One of those was at Ohio State, two were at TCU, and the final two were with San Diego State.
He started just four games over his first four seasons. In his fifth and final year, he started 36 games with the Aztecs and had one of the best seasons in program history, averaging 21.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
That season, he scored 772 points, the most in a single season in San Diego State history.
