7 Best Purdue Basketball Players of All Time, Ranked

The Purdue Boilermakers first suited up in 1896, but they have yet to win a national championship since the tournament began in its first iteration in 1939. 

They made their first national championship game in 1969. 

That said, their college basketball odds to win the national title and more are available at BetMGM. 

Below, I’ll look back at their history and rank their seven best players.

1. Zach Edey 

Over his career at Purdue, Edey averaged 18.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. In his final season, he averaged 25.2 points and 12.2 rebounds. 

Edey holds Purdue records in points (2,516) and rebounds (1,321), 

He was a two-time national college player of the year, two-time consensus first-team All-American, two-time Pete Newell Award winner, the NCAA scoring champion in 2024, and many more accolades. 

2. Glenn Robinson

Playing two seasons for the Boilermakers, Robinson averaged 27.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. 

Robinson averaged 30.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game in his junior season. 

He was the National College Player of the Year in 1994. That same year, he was a first-team All-American, the NCAA scoring leader, Big Ten Player/Athlete of the Year, and more. 

He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft.

3. Rick Mount

Playing three seasons, Mount is the all-time leading scorer in Purdue history with 2,323 points. He averaged 32.3 points per game across three seasons and had a career-high 35.4 points per game in 1969-70. He was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-Big Ten recipient. 

4. Joe Barry Carroll

Third in scoring and second in rebounding in program history with 2,175 points and 1,148 rebounds, Carroll averaged 17.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game. He shot nearly 55% from the floor as well. 

He was a two-time All-Big Ten recipient and a first-team and third-team All-American. 

5. Terry Dischinger

Dischinger averaged 28.3 points and 13.7 rebounds per game over his Purdue career. He was a three-time All-American and three-time All-Big Ten recipient. He also shot 55.3% from the field. 

6. Robbie Hummel

Playing four seasons for the Boilermakers, Hummel averaged 14 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, one steal, and 0.9 blocks per game. He started 120 of the 127 games he played, shooting 48.3% from the field and 39% from 3-point range. 

He was a three-time All-Big Ten player, Big Ten Tournament MVP, Big Ten All-Freshman member, and more. 

7. E’Twaun Moore

Also playing four seasons for the Boilermakers, Moore is fourth on the all-time leading scoring list for the program. 

He was a two-time AP honourable mention All-American, first-team All-Big Ten, second-team All-Big Ten, and Big Ten All-Freshman Team. 

In those four seasons, Moore averaged 15.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game.
