Oklahoma Sooners All-Time Greatest Basketball Players
1. Wayman Tisdale
Tisdale suited up for Oklahoma from 1981 to 1985, finishing his career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,661 points.
He was a three-time consensus first-team All-American, three-time Big Eight Player of the Year, three-time first-team All-Big Eight, and the program retired his No. 23.
Tisdale is also the Sooners all-time leader in rebounds (1,048) and is fourth in blocks (209).
Additionally, he holds three of the top eight single-season scoring records, including the No. 1 spot with 932 points during the 1984-85 season.
He averaged 25.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game.
2. Buddy Hield
Hield was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, but before that, he was at Oklahoma from 2012 to 2016.
He was the Naismith College Player of the Year, won the John R. Wooden Award (most outstanding college player), Jerry West Award (top shooting guard), and Oscar Robertson Trophy (another most outstanding player award), was the Sporting News College Player of the Year, a consensus first-team All-American, first-team All-American, two-time Big 12 Player of the Year, two-time first-team All-Big 12, and second-team All-Big 12.
Yeah, he was quite an accomplished Sooner.
He ranks second in scoring (2,291) and 10th in steals (168).
Hield is also second in single-season scoring with 925 points in the 2015-16 season.
As a senior, he averaged 25.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
3. Blake Griffin
Griffin played just two seasons with Oklahoma, but it was good enough for him to be the No. 1 overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft.
As a sophomore, he averaged 22.7 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.
He was the National College Player of the Year, a consensus first-team All-American, led the NCAA in rebounds (2009), and was named Big 12 Player of the Year.
His 504 rebounds during the 2008-09 season not only led the NCAA, but it was the Oklahoma single-season rebounds record.
He also ranks 10th all-time with 805.
The school retired his No. 23.
4. Trae Young
Young was one-and-done at Oklahoma, playing there during the 2017-18 campaign.
He averaged 27.4 points, 8.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.
He ranks third in single-season scoring (876 points) and second in single-season assists (279).
Young was a consensus first-team All-American, Big 12 Freshman of the Year, and first-team All-Big 12, led the NCAA in assists and scoring, and won the Wayman Tisdale Award (most outstanding male freshman).
5. Alvan Adams
Adams was at Oklahoma from 1972 to 1975. He scored 1,707 points (ninth) and had 938 rebounds (third).
He holds the single-season rebounds record with 28 in the 1972-73 season against Indiana State.
He was third-team All-American, Big Eight Player of the Year, three-time first-team All-Big Eight, and the school retired his No. 33.
Adams averaged 23.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game across 73 games.
